Pet Insulin Syringe
4 out of 5 stars.I previously used the human insulin syringes only because that was what the vet had prescribed when my cat became a diabetic. The human needles are longer than these pet syringes. Although I can use my FSA account to buy the human insulin syringe, I decided to stick with these needles because I have gone through his skin and poked myself in the finger a couple times due to the needle length. I can’t use my FSA for these which are a bummer, but I find that these are much more user friendly for our pets so I am sticking to these. Measuring lines were good for the first 2-3 boxes, but this last one I got…the lines were way off. Luckily for me, I use a caliper to measure his dose so it is consistent every time no matter what the lines on the plunger does from one syringe to another. If you don’t already use a digital caliper, you need to get one. Join the FB group Feline Diabetes Support Group. They can help you with the calipers and feline diabetes in general.

Easy to see 1/2 unit markings! No fuss injections
Do you have a diabetic pet that requires U-100 insulin doses involving half unit increments? Do you have poor eyesight and the thought of trusting your eyes to accurately and consistently estimate half unit increments make you queasy? THEN THESE U-100 INSULIN NEEDLES ARE FOR YOU!My eyes aren’t horrible but they’re not great either, particularly in the morning. I had an extremely difficult time finding needles with half unit markings. These are more expensive than some other needles, but they allow me to accurately and consistently measure my sweat boy’s U-100 insulin dose. Good and sharp for painless, no fuss, injections.I have a Maine Coon, male, very thin … he was not overweight when he developed diabetes, and he became underweight and lost most of his muscle mass during diagnosis/finding correct dosage. Good length needle for his coat and lack of fat/muscle. If needle was too long we had occasional through-and-though injections; if too short it wouldn’t get through his coat reliably.

Needles are easily breakable!
I have to use the U-100 syringes for my cat who has diabetes. I’ve purchased three different boxes of syringes from this company. Two boxes were the U-100 kind. One of those boxes was of the U-40 kind, which was a mistake on my part, but one I ended up being glad I made because the needles, at least, were longer on those. I just had to figure out the dosage for my cat using those syringes in lieu of the U-100 ones.Anyway, I’ve had so many problems with this company’s syringes because the needles often bend on me! This tends to happen when putting the needle through the top of the insulin bottle. BUT, the worst time was when the needle bent while trying to inject the insulin into my cat! That resulted in my poor kitty getting stinky fur with insulin on it. She had to lick that off when grooming herself, too! Yuck! But worse than that, it resulted in my not knowing if any of the insulin actually made it into her before the needle bent, or if I needed to re-administer the complete dosage! That’s a potentially life threatening problem! I had around 1/8 of the needles bend on me from each of the first two boxes. The most recent one, though, has been even worse than that! I’ve had at least 1 in 5 needles bend on me! This results in a lot of wasted money and potential dosage problems when they bend like that! The reason I have gotten these syringes despite the problems is because the vet ended up doubling the price of the syringes they were selling! However, I can’t keep purchasing syringes with weak needles like this. I’m now stuck having to find a different brand with stronger needles. One more thing: cats have thicker skin than dogs. They need longer needles like the ones in the U-40 syringes. I do not understand why the ones on the U-100 from this company are so short! It could be part of the problem with the needles bending!
