    Very Inaccurate
When I tried using this product the temperature indicated seemed unbelievable so I tested it vs three thermometers I had conveniently at hand that I trust to be reasonably accurate. None are calibrated to any reputable standard so “caveat emptor.” The first is a Meade thermometer # 6423 366 12. The second a 1940s vintage Airguide indoor and the third a glass bulb alcohol stem thermometer used for darkroom work. Despite the lack of calibration, my reference thermometers were all pretty close together while the Taylor was reading over 6F degrees high on average. The attached chart reports the results of simultaneous readings of all four thermometers for seven different days. The two lowest temp readings were in the fridge and I only put the Meade in the fridge along with the Taylor in a small jar of water so it would average the temp swings and retain its reading long enough for me to remove it and take a reading. In the second to last reading, I left it in the fridge for about 4 hours; in the last, about 8 hours without opening the fridge door. Had I know it would be this inaccurate I would not have wasted the money. Now that I have gone to the trouble to test it and it’s only for soils, I may keep it and just subtract 6F from the reading. A much more accurate metal stem dial thermometer like this can be had for not much more $. Researching the history of Taylor, they appear to have been acquired multiple times and about all that remains besides the name is the motto “Accuracy First,” which I think is a farce. Some good quality products are made in China but this is not one, in my opinion. The package says Taylor was “Est. 1851” but since they changed hands multiple times I think that is misleading. The package says “Complete One Year Limited Warranty” but I could not find it on their website or any phone # to call. They did not respond to my email with the data. Other reviews here state that their device was “accurate” without stating how they came to that conclusion.

    Taylor best on the market
If it’s Taylor I will buy it. I worked in the food industry all my life, literally since I was a child. My mother owned a restaurant and I helped out daily before school. Everything was Taylor when it came to thermometers etc. This product is outstanding. Trustworthy. Accurate. No worries when using their products.
