Unbelievably well-designed, and my grandsons love it!
I got three kits: the 100, 300, and 500-project kits for my three grandsons of different ages. I’d never seen these before, so I didn’t know what to expect. As an engineer myself, I find it rare to get a product that I feel is well designed. Well these are amazing. The colorful components really invite kids to use them, and the whole kit and the project book are just fantastic. The Snap Circuits folks know that kids need some elements that are just plain fun, and theses kits provide the fun by including a motor with a helicopter blade, noisemakers, and other cool things. But mostly I’ll just say that I can’t imagine how anyone could come up with a better design for a kit that lets kids easily set up and tear down circuits. BRAVO!

This is a great introductory electronics kit for kids! It says it’s for kids 8+, but my 5 year old is very advanced and he loves the hands-on learning with various projects. It lets him explore basic electrical concepts without much risk and experiment with different designs. Highly recommend to keep a kid busy for hours!

Really neat product, really bad packaging
Bought this (very far in advance) for my daughter for Christmas, as I was looking for something similar to the Radio Shack 200:1 type kits I had as a child. Unfortunately, those don’t exist anymore – but this is pretty close. The instructions could use some work, as they do not really describe what the components are doing and it feels more like teaching them to build Legos rather than read or understand electronic components and circuit diagrams, but I can understand how it might be the best option given the limitations of pieces being used. The old Radio Shack units had springs and everything was wired together with (sometimes hundreds!) of little jumper wires. Granted, I suppose not much is really wired that way anymore, and perhaps this more “circuit board style” is more appropriate for today’s kids (and adults!). Either way, she has really enjoyed playing with it and learning about dc current flow, how reversing polarity on the motor causes it to spin in different directions, and troubleshooting her circuit lead to an understanding of how diodes are only one way. It’s achieving it’s goal, and for that, it’s great.What’s not so great, however, is the packaging. It’s two cardboard and plastic molded trays, and just a slip cover. It’s very difficult to store, since anything other than sitting flat on a shelf will cause the slip cover to come off, the trays to fall, and pieces to go everywhere! It really needs a traditional, closing box. Will have to try to find something that is more appropriate to hold the pieces, which is unfortunate.

Fantastic for 8+. The instructions were easy to understand for the age. I put together the first one so he could get the general idea..and he took it from there. He built and tested all the projects in about 20 minutes, then started experimenting with his own ideas.

I got this for Christmas for my 10 year old grandson. He’s really into technology and likes building and putting things together. He really enjoys this and now wants to know how much electricians make. I wish I would have gotten the one with 500 projects…I got the 300, but he’s having a lot of fun with it. Looks like a birthday present for the 500!

This is amazing but if you buy the smaller versions, it will get boring too quick. This has the possibility of many engaging projects, even a FM radio. My 8 year old enjoys creating many projects with it and also learns what no to do by reading the books to avoid short circuits. The instruction books are very well made. Good job Elenco 🙂
