Fast accurate thermometer
While slightly bulkier than expected (but consistent with the product listing), this seems a solid, accurate, quick read thermometer with an easily read backlit display (in either F or C)… powered by a commonly available AAA battery.Its size will be an advantage in some use cases, ex. measuring meats on a hot grill… allowing hands to stay a bit further from the heat. Its robustness will leave one comfortable probing deeply into such meats.It comes with certification paperwork documenting its calibration, and claims accuracy within 1/2 of a degree. My testing w/ ice water and boiled water (benchmarked against another quality digital thermometer) seemed to confirm this, with all readings within a degree of my other thermometer (which I think has claimed accuracy within a degree).Left “static”, its temperature display will go to sleep within 30 seconds… but it only takes a jiggle and it will come back on (if in the open position). If you are actively using it (moving it), it will stay in backlit mode. Set it down, and it will stay in backlit mode for ~12 seconds, then ~12 seconds in non-backlit display mode, then turn off (in sleep mode). As soon as you move it again (if open), it will return to backlit mode.Other features include a magnetic mounting option (which works!), and a bottle opener (which seems will work well), and a temperature “LOCK” button, which with a tap will freeze the temperature display for five seconds, or with a continuous hold will freeze it for as long as you hold the button down.Based on initial evaluation, this is a nice thermometer for use in the kitchen, on the grill, or for other uses that seems a bargain at its price for its accuracy and speed.

Great Meat thermometer
I was amazed at the design of this meat thermometer. Most found in stores, even on line, are a single stem/probe that frequently gets lost in a utensil drawer. The numbers are large and easy to read, pretty quick temp read and compact storage all in one. The non-skid rubber bottom prevents sliding when placed down. The small button on the back for changing from celcius to fahrenheit is so convenient. The added bottle opener just adds another function when you’re cooking for a crowd and you’ve got the dual function (opener and temp guide) at hand. The waterproofness reported to be IP67 is really awesome. The probe is long enough to insert into thick meats like turkeys, roasts or a deep dish casserole. I like that the display is large but also auto sleeps when not in use and activates simply by moving, picking up, etc. While the device comes with a Certificate of Calibration, there is also an insert to recalibrate if needed. Also included is a Food Safety Temperature Guide documenting it both in Fahrenheit and Celcius. I like that, the little plastic tray it’s in, within the item box is perfect for storing rather than just tossing in a draw. I mean this is one ALL in one perfect, rapid read, easy read, functional food temp thermometer I have ever found. It’s high quality and is sure to find a perfect spot for use in every kitchen.

Instant-Read Kitchen Thermometer. 1-second fast reading. Auto-rotating LED Display.Perfect for testing the temperature for meats, candy making, or water temperature. I’ve always winged it when it came to candy making, using the back of a wooden spoon and sliding a finger through the syrup to see if the groove filled back in. When making no-bake cookies, I do the string method, where I allow the syrup to drip off the edge of the spatula and see if it creates a string. A cup of cool water to see if the syrup creates a soft ball. I know all the tricks, except when it comes to getting the proper temperature to bloom my yeast when making bread.This thermometer is so much better than winging it or using old-school techniques. In less than a second, I get an accurate read, whether it’s making candy or desserts, and now baking bread. This summer, I’ll try it out on my barbequed meats.Folds for easy storage. Larger than I expected, which makes it sturdy and easy to use. The length of the probe is quite long, which I appreciate so that I don’t have to stick my hand into a pot of bubbling syrup, and the length will come in handy when probing meat in my smoker.

Registers temp changes very fast and accurate, LCD flips image so always readable
I have never had the name-brand overpriced thermopens but this one is by far my best and I am not sure how you could improve other than perhaps size, it is somewhat larger but the tradeoff being completely waterproof and using standard batteries is still an improvement. It registers temp changes instantly and can easily come to a stable temp within 10 seconds or less.Calibration was perfect out of the box but if you do need to calibrate (and you should check) it is as easy as making ice water and holding two buttons for a few seconds. With a lifetime warranty and this current price I am not sure why you would choose other brands over this.My current one that will now be my backup is annoying when making certain sensitive liquids where I want to hold it with my left hand and constantly stir with my right… but in doing so will show the temp upside down. I have learned to live with it… but this is an instant improvement. It flips the LCD display so you can read it correctly no matter how you choose to hold it. I thought it actually swiveled the probe so you can read it in any direction, but that is not the case, it flips the display.
