Solidly built, easy to use, well-documented
As a former volunteer EMT (years ago), I was trained to use manual sphygmomanometers, but for home health monitoring it’s tricky to get accurate, repeatable readings on yourself. Automated instruments are good enough now that I trust the concept, but I wanted a quality device. Omron is a longstanding manufacturer of electrical and electronic parts for commercial and industrial systems, not just consumer products. I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my spouse.Things that I appreciate about the Omron Silver:* There is a well-written, multilingual, and detailed user manual. The device is *very* easy to use, but it’s nice to have a manual that explains in detail *if* you have questions, or for easily forgotten occasional things like how to set the date and time. “Better to have and not need…”* The readout base unit is weighted and has a nonskid base. It can sit on a table or the arm (if wide enough) of a chair and isn’t going to slide off or tip over while applying or removing the arm cuff.* The surfaces are smooth and uncomplicated and will be easy to clean if needed.* Based on tests with readings a few minutes apart, taken over a week’s time and compared to my doctor’s office readings, I feel this device is taking accurate readings and that they are consistent and repeatable (allowing for the body’s natural variation in BP). The point at which it stops auscultating (or palpating, sense it’s reading air pressure?) at the diastolic end of the reading is very consistent and is almost exactly where I would have stopped if reading manually.* This device runs on four AA batteries. Since it has a motor for the air pump, it will naturally draw more current than a purely electronic device. The AA batteries will almost certainly last longer than AAA batteries would. There is an AC adapter connection, but that’s probably overkill unless you are using the device multiple times per day. (I’ll be using rechargeable batteries, but it’s still inconvenient to have to change them frequently, so I’m glad of the larger AA size.)Negative comments:* My one complaint is that the arm cuff is wider than many (in the direction that aligns along the arm bone). I am of about average size, but the cuff covers my upper arm from the armpit to just about 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the crook of the elbow. This might be a problem for someone with shorter arms. The circumference is typical of cuffs for average sized adults, but some people may need a cuff in a larger or smaller size.Neutral comments:* The arm cuff isn’t loose and flexible like the traditional cuffs but has an internal contracting spring that makes it naturally grip (gently) the arm. It has an opening so it can be slipped over the arm, but in practice it’s easier to put the hand through and slide it on and off the arm. On the plus side, this almost guarantees correct tightness of the cuff around the arm, for accurate readings, but it might be inconvenient for some people. It is secured with the usual Velcro closure, but its natural grip force helps hold it in place until then.* I have not yet installed the mobile app, but from a privacy and security standpoint I am much more comfortable installing an app from a well-known manufacturer like Omron than a company whose reputation I don’t know.

Super Easy To Use – As Well As Accurate
My wife and I both have used this for a while now. The readings have correlated with what’s taken at our doctor’s office. We’re both retired medical people who are very familiar with taking BP readings. The automatic devices that are ubiquitously used can be quite variable depending upon proper cuff usage and placement.The cuff on this device is the killer feature. It is by far the easiest I’ve ever seen for a single individual to place by himself. For me I just stick my hand through the curled cuff, slide it up my arm to about an index finger’s width above my elbow crease and stick the Velcro end onto the cuff. I don’t even have to tighten it; it almost attaches itself. The more common cuffs can be difficult to snug up properly, especially if trying to do it solo, and because it can slide around the arm it can be difficult to place over the proper location. This all contributes to the variability that can be seen with these self inflating monitors. Which is why doctors regularly retake a pressure reading by using a stethoscope after seeing an odd result that was obtained by the assistant who first takes your pressure. There is no such problem with this Omron, the cuff alleviates almost all such drawbacks.It is possible that those with larger arms may have some issue with the cuff, perhaps leading to some of the review comments about being painful or too tight. The larger cuff option could resolve such issues. I can’t speak to that as my wife and I have distinctly different sized arms and have had no issues.There is an app but since my wife and I will both use this on occasion, and since the app requires fairly significant personal details with features that we do not need, we have not downloaded and used it. The reviews of the app on the Apple App Store are quite mixed. If you have an Apple device with the Health app you can just add the BP results manually into that section to keep a record, this is what we do. I had also initially considered the iHealth monitor which has very good reviews also and is a little less expensive, but this cuff made the difference. Initially all that’s needed to do is set the date and time, and even that’s not totally necessary but it does provide a way to see the trend of the readings since at least 80 results can be stored. After that you just press a button and that’s it. Results at home when you’re seated quietly and relaxed are more accurate as far as making any health decisions than results taken in a medical setting where you’re almost certain to be somewhat stressed. I highly recommend this device.

NO Backlight
I like the size of the reading. I also really like the Bluetooth capability. It is super easy to download onto my cell phone. Keep in mind, you may need to buy another cuff. I am a small woman, and this cuff fits me with little extra; therefore, it may not fit a larger arm. One nice thing about this cuff, is that first few inches is shaped (not a floppy piece of fabric), so is easier to put on. This unit has both positives and negatives. Overall, I would recommend it.
There is good and bad with this unit. For the price, I would expect a backlight. Omron missed the mark on that. You have to sit in good light to use it. The case included is a joke. It is way too small to fit the unit and cuff in. Struggling with that for a few minutes every time you use it does not help your blood pressure. I gave up and ended using a cloth Crown Royal bag and the whole thing fits quite nicely.

Get the AC power adapter so you don’t spend a fortune on batteries, otherwise it works well and is very accurate. There is an app so the cuff will sync to your phone and log all your readings.

It is a great product especially if you need to use it regularly. The best thing is that you can have an app installed on your phone and through Bluetooth, it automatically picks the reading and stores history, gives average High, Low blood pressure and Heartbeat. I did not buy any premium app plan but the free stuff has sufficient.Readings are accurate and I checked against doctor’s reading as well. Battery life is good.

With Covid19 and most drug stores shutting off access to free blood pressure machine test to the public I bought my 1st Omron Silver model (consumers report rated it high). I read some of the reviews and a lot of folks mentioned that the app was evasive to their health history(I did not find that). Just fill what you think anyone needs to know, the app is simple and helpful IMO. (you do not need to use the app to make the machine work.)The machine is accurate and that is the most important information for anyone.People will find that most Blood pressure monitors give different readings but are generally in a small average #’s cluster. The app averages them out for the day if taking different time readings and that is great, my blood pressure is up in the morning but mid day comes down to almost ideal 120/80 range and this monitor gives pulse rate also.My wife has low blood pressure and is hard to read and I’m hoping she will try it out.I believe this monitor is great and the cuff for inflating around the arm is worth every penny spent, it beats those cheap ones with the metal bridge to adjust hands down IMO.The silver model also takes a electrical adapter instead of using batteries but you have to purchase it separately, I thought this model did not when buying it did not when researching it(thought you might like to know).
