The box for this toy is designed so that you can easily open it and remove the toy and its accessories without damaging the box. It is also designed to potentially display the toy via a front door that swings open, and an appropriate backdrop photo within the box. The whole box design is so attractive that it is worth keeping in its own right. Normally I have a ‘meh’ attitude towards toy accessories, but the accessories that come with this Baby Sinclair toy had me guffawing out loud with joy. If you are going to bother with accessories, do it right and include everything you need to recreate the reality of the character — that is just what this company has done in this case. All of the accoutrements of Baby Earl were so distinctive and well-thought-through by the creators of ‘Dinosaurs’, and all these accoutrements are recreated in perfect likeness here with this toy. The paint jobs are perfect, even on the tiniest accessories, and the shapes are exact from the television show. The Baby’s high chair is just the right weight. I have also never seen such a justified production of a second head, swappable with the main head of the toy. Baby Sinclair with his golden unicorn horn is so, so wonderful. The extra hands are also crucial to allow Baby to wield his many different accessories. It is also very easy to remove the removable, swappable body parts on this toy — a little too easy, in fact, as his hands and even his tail (which the customer has to assemble onto the body) keep wanting to fall off with the slightest movement. Baby Earl himself has a form that is exactly true to the television muppet. His skin colour is darker and less luminiscent than his original toy incarnations from the 80s/90s, and I think this is a mistake; it makes him look a bit greyish and drab. The yellow paint application of his shirt was not as mild as it should be, and it is sloppily applied. His arm joints were extremely stiff to move at first, and when I did succeed in moving them, the paint cracked with jagged hunks hanging out around the ball joints. The figure itself is only a few inches, and the whole thing felt strangely pinched in its small scale, especially given that so much lavish detail had gone into everything. I don’t think that a figure that is only a few inches should be allowed to be labelled a 7 inch action figure just because it is “scaled to” a 7-inch model of that toy line.
