Finally found my vegan protein powder!
I’ve been purchasing my vegan protein powders from another company, but just can’t stand the level of stevia in their products anymore. I wanted to give hemp protein another try but put it off because the one I tried several years ago had the taste, texture and appeal of quarry gravel. When my last order from the “other company” for a pea protein powder turned out to be unbearable with the stevia flavor, I looked to hemp again and was intrigued by this Manitoba Harvest product. So I gave it a try. And was pleasantly surprised!FLAVOR – so far I’ve only tried vanilla, and to my delight it has a nice, light flavor. There is NO stevia in this product and I like that it has just enough coconut sugar to make the taste pleasing. I’d rather have a little real sugar than gag on stevia. In fact, the taste is refreshingly light and it pairs well with my green and fruit smoothies. I like to mix it in my Vitamix with greens, almond milk and frozen fruit, and it turns out delicious and smooth.GRIT – yeah, I don’t think you can get past having some grit with hemp protein powders. That said, it’s very tolerable and I don’t mind it. It’s nothing like the quarry gravel experience from the first hemp powder I tried. I blend it in a Vitamix, so perhaps that gives me a helping hand.FIBER – let’s just say I’ll never have to buy Miralax again, a nice cost savings! This is a great way to get your fiber in naturally, and obtain some nutrition along with it. As I’ve mentioned, the Vitamix helps create a smoother smoothie, but I sometimes use Hemp Yeah in a shaker cup with plain water. The grit sinks to the bottom so I keep swirling in water as I drink it down and really don’t mind it. The benefits outweigh a little roughage going down.Thank you Manitoba Harvest, I’m a customer for life. I also appreciate that this product is organic, flavored naturally, priced well, and delivers on its promises.

Finally found
Trader Joe’s used to sell this under their generic brand around 2012. It was so good but they stopped selling it and I’ve been looking for it ever since. I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found it! This is just as delicious as I remember it. Very healthy and easy to digest. I love it.

I like the Hemp Protein powder
I like the Hemp Protein powder. I would have given it 5 stars if it had more Protein. I bought it as a Protein powder, but it doesn’t have all that much protein. It has lots of fiber though which is great for the digestion. So for that reason I love it. I did buy a different Protein powder though for my morning Protein shake, one that gives me the morning Protein boost that I want. It tastes nice and is not expensive and for the purpose of getting more fiber it’s definitely great.

Awesome when blended with banana and almond milk
Before ordering this product I researched dozens of non-dairy protein powders (pea, hemp, soy, rice) and read seemingly hundreds of reviews in my attempt to find a palatable substitute for the whey powders that give me stomach aches and a general feeling of ickyness for an hour after drinking them. Most reviewers seem to be of the opinion that non-dairy protein powders taste terrible: chalky, gritty, flavorless are the most commonly used adjectives when describing these powders. I think they are trying to compare two totally different products and expecting them to be the same. No, this hemp powder doesn’t taste *as good* as whey-based chocolate protein powders, but it doesn’t taste *as good* as a Frappuccino either. This is the way I drink it: I blend 1 cup of almond milk, 1/4 cup chocolate hemp powder, 1 banana and 4 ice cubes in a blender and it tastes pretty great! I would not recommend trying to mix this in a glass with just milk or water as it is thick and difficult to blend completely. A blender is necessary. To describe the taste and texture I would simply call it “earthy” with a hint of chocolate. I would definitely not call it chalky– that is one texture I cannot tolerate. I think when reviewers use the words chalky and gritty they mean fibrous. To me, gritty is sandy or granular. This product is not like that. The texture is clearly fibrous and the fibers don’t blend that well into the drink even after using a high-powered blender (I use a Ninja). It is a plant-based powder after all. And the best part of this powder is the fiber content– 10 grams! You will not see that in a whey-based protein powder. I also appreciate the limited number of ingredients in this product– only 3 ingredients: organic hemp powder, organic palm sugar and organic cocoa powder. After I taste tested this chocolate powder, I have since purchased the vanilla powder as well. They both taste great in the banana smoothie recipe above. I am convinced that with a little creativity this product can be used to make a number of different, tasty smoothies. Other reviewers have recommended peanut or almond butter to blend with this product.

I enjoy the health benefits of hemp protein in my smoothies. It is generally not easily palatable due to the nasty taste, but, of all the brands that I’ve used thus far, this is my least favourite, despite having the best price and saying vanilla on the label (tastes nothing like vanilla) . The texture is gritter than others and the bad taste seems more pronounced somehow.

I love this product, I’ve ordered several times and will continue to do so. The light vanilla taste is good, however, I like the original too.
