Just what I expected
Replacing an older Model 914 as the electronics went bad. Works as expected and easy install.

Zigbee is awesome!
Zigbee and Z-wave are the way to go with home automation. They can be locally controlled by the hub, so the internet isn’t a weak link. And, they use less power to communicate which is especially great for battery powered devices. They’re both a better option than bandwidth and energy hogging WiFi in my opinion and of the two I’ve had better range performance with Zigbee. If you want a lock that not only opens with a code, but is great for remote operation and as part of home automations, this is a great and reliable choice. And of course the kwikset system lets you key it to match your other locks. (In case it’s of interest to home automation folks; I use the Smartthings hub and have a veritable constellation of Zigbee and zwave devices working together.)

Easy install and connect with Alexa
I have several Kwikset smart locks and love that I can re-key them using the smartkey tool. This is the first one that has network connectivity. I had to upgrade to the Echo Show 8 (3rd gen) to get the ZigBee hub capability (Echo Plus and Echo 4th Gen also have the ZibBee hub). To connect the lock, I used the Alexa app and had to choose Lock and “Other” (only preprogrammed to Kwikset Halo). When choosing “Other”, it asked for type of connection (ZigBee, Z-wave Etc). I chose ZigBee 3.0 and it connected immediately. The ONLY think I don’t like it that this lock mechanism is louder than the one being replaced (Kwikset 909 SmartCode)

Hardly smart
This review is for the Kwikset 914 Zigbee model. I’m new to smart technology but figured a smart door lock was a good step in the right direction. I was looking for a smart lock that matched the hardware on my front door. Relatively few matched and this was one at a reasonable price point. After reading the documentation and reviews this seemed like the right product for me. Unfortunately Amazon mixes reviews and questions for different locks with the result that the actual capability of the lock is not very clear. The only smart thing about the 914 is that it can connect to Alexa and you can lock/unlock it via Alexa/Echo. That’s it! This lock is not supported by the Kwikset app. You cannot change codes via an app – you need to do so on the lock itself. It does not alert you when it is used or tell you which code has been used to open it (but you can see the status of the lock via the Alexa app and lock/unlock remotely). So it leaves me wondering – what is the point of having the ability to program 30 separate codes into the lock if you can’t discern which one has been used and can’t turn them on or off quickly. You pay about $100 more than for a not-smart conventional digital lock for the benefit of being able to say, “Alexa, lock the front door”.There is an automatic lock function, but you have no ability to change the time delay, which is set to about 30 seconds. So every time you step outside to take out the trash or pick up the post you return to a locked door! After a week I switched it off out of frustration. Another useless feature.On the positive side – its easy to install and appears quite robust.

Very nice zigbee lock that works with Hubitat
I have installed 3 of these on my home in the past couple of years. They work great and the batteries last over a year on mine. I did receive one that was used and not working. I sent it back and the next one they sent was fine. Amazon is the best there is when dealing with non working merchandise.

Manual Keys Didn’t Work
This is a problem with the re-key option with these locks. I received a previously returned lock that had been rekeyed. The manual keys did not work. There was a note in the box that stated that they digital part of the lock did not work. I still attempted to install the lock but as stated the lock did not work even after doing a hard reset. Overall this is a problem with the Amazon return process and the lock.

After no end of problems with a touch screen lock from a related company, bought this instead. And it works great. The codes have been consistent, the lock and unlock functions work well, I’m able to lock it via Alexa and overall just a solid product. If you’re looking for a front door lock with a smart key feature common to this brand and Weiser, this is the one I’d recommend
