High quality 8-input splitter with 4K. Logitech Harmony compatible
This splitter is of highest build quality. I have the non 4K version and had to upgrade to the 4K version when I upgraded my TV. I have way more devices (Apple TV, PS4, Nintendo Switch, XBOX, Blu-Ray, Fire TV) than my TV supports. Removing one device and plugging in another constantly messed up my Harmony hub programs. Because of the cost, I kept hoping less expensive options for an 8 input splitter with 4K would come on the market. After waiting over a year, finally bit the bullet and made the purchase. I can’t give it a perfect value rating because it’s not a value product. It’s a high quality item with a high price to match.Performance wise, this device is absolutely perfect. It looks nice with the stainless face, is a solid metal box, and has clear lights/labels. It was in the Logitech Harmony database and integrating it was no problem. All 4K devices are recognized by my Samsung TV as 4K when their signals pass through it. No difference in picture quality versus a direct TV connection to each device.Bottom line is I should have bought this from the start. Would have saved lots of headaches from switching devices as needed. It never fails to switch properly when included in Harmony activities. I’ve had the non 4K version for a couple of years and it also has performed flawlessly. If you need more HDMI inputs than your TV supplies, this is your best bet.

I am thoroughly impressed with this 4K UHD 4-port HDMI switch. I previously bought one that was about half the price (different manufacturer). At face value, that one worked fine…but I ran into issues with occasionally pixelated images, LEDs that were way too bright/annoying, and ultimately, a PIP feature that was a disaster and couldn’t even be disabled. So, I did even more research and found this one at about double the price.First off, it’s metal, solid, and heavy. In comparison, the one I returned felt like an old Sega Genesis cartridge. I read that this one may, by default, automatically switch sources. I was prepared for this, and even secured a USB to Serial Adapter (after making sure there were some basic instructions out there) to toggle the setting. It turns out I don’t need that because, at least by default, the one I received does not automatically switch sources when input/whatever is detected. I tested this pretty thoroughly. And, I have to say, having the physical buttons on the front is great. For my use case, it’s a lot less clumsy than having the little remote always around. I did confirm that the remote works as expected.If anything, the one thing I don’t like is that the 4th HDMI input has to be plugged into the front. In the end, it’s really not a big deal. All things considered, this is a great piece of hardware.

Great switch unless you own a Wii U
I have edited this post as I found a solution to my issue. See the end for details;———————-There are very few 8 to 1 HDMI switches out there. This (GHSW8181) is my third one, and by far the best. The quality seems fine, and the remote is easy to use and works at odd angles.I rate at 3 stars because of an issue I am having with the unit. The Power On Detection allows the switch to automatically switch to devices when they are turned on. That sounds convenient, but when your Nintendo Wii in sleep mode “wakes” up extremely briefly every few hours, the Power On Detection feature becomes nightmarish. On top of that, the Amazon Fire TV will install updates every now and then, and when it restarts, the switch auto-switches to it as well. The manual says it “might not work with some devices”, but it appears to be working too well on this model.Luckily the manual states that by using an RS-232 cable you can program the device and turn the feature on or off. Being and IT administrator, that sounded like an easy task. Problem is that I could not get the command “pod off” to work. It kept coming back as an invalid command. To test my connection I tried other commands, such as “sw i03”, and the device switched to port 3 as expected. “sw +” and “sw -” also worked, and incremented/decremented the port as expected. I attached my terminal output for reference.I searched online for updated firmware and found nothing. Live chatting with IOGear online support for 30 minutes about the faulty command resulted in the response “This is really out of our line of support because you’re dealing with Serial Port. If these commands are not working but others are it can be an issue with your system. Sorry but I can’t offer any other support with this issue”. Thinking it was a problem with my particular unit, I returned it as defective to Amazon and received a replacement, but the replacement had the exact same problem.Needless to say, I will be searching for device #4 as this one does not meet my expectations, but as long as the Power On Detection feature is fine with you, then it is a very nice unit.————————-Reading through other reviews, I found that the chip inside this think is an ATEN ship. Going to ATEN’s website, I found the manual for their VS0801H model. In that manual, it states that the command to turn off auto switching is “swmode default”. That command miraculously works on this model, and has the intended result that “pod off” was supposed to have.Upping my review from 3 to 4 stars, however I strongly recommend IOGear updates their user manual. I will be chatting this to their online support team tomorrow.
