Works really well
My 5 month old baby is on Nutramigen (casein base) but still has discomfort & mild eczema patches. He was fine for about a month but always spitup a lot. His spitup has improved some, but even with reflux medicine has been having increased tummy troubles & now crying while eating. I ordered this to try a whey base to see if it would help. The first day I mixed in 20% of the Gerber & he was more uncomfortable and upset as the day went on, but the 2nd was like magic! No stomach gurgling, no super wet burps, no crying, very little spitup. I’m still in the process of increasing the Gerber ever so slowly, but wow it is like night & day even just that little bit. This also smells less bad than Nutramigen. NONE of the hypoallergenic formulas in the US taste good. They are all extremely bitter because of the broken down protein. Don’t expect your older baby will like this if they are used to breast milk or regular formula. My baby drinks it no problem because he’s had it since 3 weeks old. This tastes a little better to me than Nutramigen. For those saying it’s hard to mix, I’ve had good luck with using warmed water, and NOT packing the scoop. It’s a smaller scoop so I’m weighing the powder I’m adding to the water in grams on a scale. Shake the bejesus out of it. It will mix well with no foam. Other formula you can’t shake hard without creating to much foam, but this Gerber hardly foams at all.

A company and a formula you can trust!!! My poor sweet baby needed a formula specific for her milk allergy and we tried alimentum, nutramigen, prosobee, gentleease, similac sensitive and everything still left her screaming in pain or she refused to eat because of the gross smell and taste…. enter this formula! THANK GOD! It’s amazing and I actually feel good knowing it’s by gerber!Pros:*powder doesn’t have a strong smell* you can make bottles by the ounce instead of having to do two ounces per scoop!* no more screaming from gas and hardly any reflux at all!!!* still can poop normally which is a huge plus since a lot of hypoallergenic and sensitive kinds are so iron enriched they cause constipation … not this one!!!* not thick so it won’t gunk up their saliva* whiter color resembling regular milk so it doesn’t stain as bad as other formulasCons:* not a lot of power in the container, one container doesn’t even last a week* can’t generally find in stores like most so make sure you order in enough time* don’t be alarmed if the poopy diapers really stink and are really darkBasically go with this formula! You’ll be so happy you did!!!

If Nutramagen and Alumentum don’t work…
Before you give up, try this. My son spent the first 12 weeks of his life sick from formulas. He was allergic to lactose we tried regular similac, soy, gentle ease, etc. until we tried the HAs. He first went on Nutramigen which gave him the diaper rash from hell. His skin was peeling off. We switched to alumentum and he didn’t poop for days. So the doctor recommended Elecare which he refused to drink and choked on to the point that I almost had a nervous breakdown. His pediatrician randomly gave us this to try in samples from her office. It was the best accident that could’ve ever happened. 1. He drank it easily 2. No diaper rash 3. Regular poops. It takes a few days for the gas to go away but he’s been on this for 2 months now and he’s a new baby. We add probiotic drops (mommy’s bliss brand) to one bottle a day and I swear the combo is a godsend.

Extremely Bitter
I usually LOVE Gerber formulas. I love how they are Non-GMO….more on that later….I have used this variety in the past a few times with no issues. But I either got a bad batch or they have changed their formulation? I prepared a bottle for my son…packaging was nice and secure, no issues there, but he refused the bottle, repeatedly. Finally, I tried a sip of it myself, and was **shocked** at how bitter it was!! Extremely bitter. If this is how it always tastes, I worry about the quality….I mean babies may not know any better if this formula is all they are ever given. If you order a can, try a sip yourself, and see if you feel comfortable giving it to your child.Hopefully this was a fluke. As I mentioned earlier, Gerber’s formulas are Non-GMO….my issue with GMO’s may not be what you think it is. Infant formulas rely heavily on corn—-corn syrup is the first ingredient in this variety. For plant-based formulas, soy is also used. Corn and Soy are genetically modified to tolerate being sprayed with Round-Up type pesticides, so that weeds around the corn/soy die, but the crops do not. I cannot see how anyone can say, Monsanto-funded studies or no, that zero of those glyphosphates are absorbed into the plant, and ultimately into the sensitive bodies of our babies. Anecdotally, my son has a neurologically disorder that improved significantly when I switched him from Similac/Enfamil Soy (both GMO) to Gerber Soy (non-GMO)….since that switch and over time, he was able to tolerate some milk-based sensitive-type formulas including this one, bought elsewhere.I know this review is for the HA variety, and not soy, but if you choose *not* to go with this product, please consider choosing another Gerber variety or an organic brand. At least look for one that is Non-Gmo. When it comes to plant-based formulas, which some of us with kids with milk-sensitivities ultimately go to anyway, almost all store brands and major grocery store brands all contain GMO ingredients….except Gerber.Amazon did issue me a refund for this product, but it might be case by case, since generally infant formula cannot be returned. It was fast shipping, and I do still love the Gerber brand in general. Just the strong bitterness made this formula undrinkable for my child.
