These things are amazing. My only concern is, it can cause a mama to have overactive letdown which presents as reflux-like symptoms in baby. Also if you notice it starting to fall off, time to replace it. They don’t last forever unfortunately, but they are awfully cheap to replace which is nice! These are just as effective as a manual or electric pump for me – I use on one side while baby is latched on the other. It may make your breasts leak if you ever skip the haakaa while nursing though!

This thing was a LIFE SAVER during my maternity leave! My son started sleeping through the night pretty early on (by 4 weeks), so by the time he would wake up at 5:30am for his first feeding I was SO swollen and full that he would only take one side. This stressed me out so much because I couldn’t just leave the other side still full…so I would either be crying trying to get him to wake up to eat the other side, or have to hook up the electric breast pump (which I HATED because there were so many parts to clean, and that would be an extra 20 minutes before I could go back to sleep).The Haakaa saved me for 2 reasons1) I needed to start a freezer stash for when I returned back to work at 8 weeks and this allowed me to do so without having to pump (the pediatrician suggested pumping AFTER his feedings to build my supply….who has time for that?!?! I would have been literally a milking cow the entire day).2) It’s literally effortless with zero pain and only ONE part that cleaned easily.I stumbled across this on a blog by accident when I was trying to figure out how to build my freezer stash before returning to work without losing my mind and I will never be more thankful for a product. I would use this for the first 2 feeding of the morning (since you’re fullest in the morning) and would have 4-6oz a day to put away in the freezer.All you have to do is squeeze the base, put on breast you aren’t feeding from and release base to get it to suction to your boob. The suction holds it in place. Then have your baby feed from the other side and it will trigger your let down on the side the Haakaa is suctioned to!!!!!!!Only negatives (but not bad enough to not warrant this a 5 star product) is that if you don’t pay attention, it can lose suction and come off (I just kept an eye on it and whenever it started to lose suction I would give it another squeeze to reestablish suction). Second is that is does not fully drain you like an electric pump would, but is enough to relieve you so you can go back to sleep (or for the second morning feeding, my son was usually awake enough that I would let him feed on that side after I used the Haakaa).Get this….you won’t regret it!!!!!

I used this for all three of my kids while breast-feeding. It was very handy to have during the late night feedings to catch the letdown on the opposite side. Definitely not an exclusive pump because it won’t empty you but it will help to ease engorgement. This is good thick durable rubber but will tip over and spill milk so you do have to be careful. Love that I can just throw it in the dishwasher.
