The trade commonplace information to room acoustics―absolutely up to date with the newest advances
Primarily based on the traditional textual content written by acoustics pioneer F. Alton Everest, this revised useful resource presents the basics of acoustics together with time-tested options and detailed room designs. Grasp Handbook of Acoustics, Seventh Version explains the artwork and science of room acoustics and structure by combining theoretical instruction with matter-of-fact engineering recommendation. The quite a few room designs inside―full with ground and elevation plans and efficiency analyses―may be constructed as introduced or tailored to fulfill particular wants. You’re going to get designs new to this version, together with video teleconferencing rooms and voice studios, in addition to new particulars on listening room and recording studio building.
Inside, you’ll uncover learn how to:
Management and make the most of sound reflection, absorption, diffraction, and diffusionCalculate room reflections, reverberation occasions, and modal resonancesPerform acoustical measurements and website surveys and select building materialsInstall modules to optimize early reflections, reverberation, and diffusionDesign and assemble residence theaters, mission studios, management rooms, recording studios, and different acoustically delicate spacesReduce HVAC noise ranges and obtain wonderful sound isolation with confirmed wall, window, and door designsAnalyze the acoustics of live performance halls, auditoriums, and locations of worshipIncorporate psychoacoustics in your designs to optimize room performanceUnderstand the operation of room acoustics modeling softwareUtilize the equipped cost-effective plans and specs for quite a lot of listening and recording rooms

Fantastic Resource 1/2
I’ll update this review once I’ve finished the book, but upon delivery and flipping through, I’m ecstatic! I’m looking to eventually build (or at least condition) a listening room, and this appears to have everything I could want to know, including many principals ”touched on” in Acoustic Fields videos (which I’m deep into). I’m also thrilled to see a discussion of both the objective physics and subjective psychoacoustics. Lastly, the readability (thus far) is inviting. I’ll be back for 2/2

Hard core acoustics reference for anyone serious about audio.
A must have for anyone new to audio science or experienced professionals. The chapters I have read so far are very maticulus in creating a strong foundation for later chapters. Some of the pros might think this is a wast but you must have the foundation to understand the later chapters. If you are serious about audio system environment design you want to take a close look at this book.

College Level Textbook
This is a tough book to review. Acoustics is a very difficult field. Coming from a engineering background and well acquainted with physics, I was a bit surprised how poorly pure acoustic theory (really wave theory physics ) works in the real world. (It is kinda similar to those basic trajectory problems in high school physics books which seriously fail in the real world due to air resistance. Except acoustics is worse due to the complexity of human hearing )The text appears to be oriented more for folks coming from a non-science / audio background, but yet it includes a fair number of equations with explanations. Some of this is rudimentary for someone with a physics background, but probably not enough for someone who hasn’t taken physics or more than basic match.I learned a lot from the book. I liked the real world examples where it worked through the tables and calculations for reverberation in a real world room. Was able to apply this to my problem – how much good would x number of square feet of acoustic panels do in a specific room. Ultimately it only provides an approximation, but it gave me a way to quantify how much x (or x+y, or x + z) sq ft should improve (reduce) reverberation. So ultimately I got exactly what I needed.

This is just an excellent book
Comprehensive and well written. If this isn’t already a textbook for audio engineering or acoustics students it should be. My knowledge of acoustics skyrocketed with this book.

Prepare for a deep dive!
I bought this to satisfy my interest in room acoustics and also to burnish my knowledge of speaker and response measurements. This book is great because after a short time covering the basics of sound, it drives quite deeply into physics, measurement and techniques and acoustic design for residential and commercial spaces.I can’t imagine ever mastering all of the content in this book. A great resource and a great buy!

The book covers a wide range of subjects in and around acoustics, from principles to practical advice for rooms of various sizes and forms. I have gained many insights form reading through most of the sections. The only snag I would add, it would be great if all numerical values where in Si units only, i.e. meters.
