Great start for someone who knows nothing about electrical.
I learned a lot from this, things I never knew about resistance and wattage and how a circuit works. I really just wanted to learn a little about electricity so I’d be less afraid of working with it in my house. It even has little experiments you can do to show you how things work, you just have to buy some fairly inexpensive stuff. It’s a little older because it recommends looking at Radio Shack for some of the items, but you can get everything on Amazon now. If you’re a layman like me, this is a good place to start learning. Worth the money.

Proves that We All Have the Potential to Understand Something Technical
Product: This is a standard “For Dummies” book. It is systematically organized and reader/user friendly.Content: I am one of those who was (barely) an engineering major in college for one year before realizing that my calling in life was to major in business administration. I am definitely not someone who is naturally inclined to study anything even remotely technical. One may even say that I have an aversion to such things. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself actually enjoying this book, and even easily grasping concepts that were quite foreign to me. I not only learned from this book, but now that I have an (albeit elementary) understanding of electricity and electronics, I have an active interest in electronics.

Good intro to concepts with some fun projects
I’ve tried to get into other electronics primers, but this is the one that actually made sense to me. The explanations of the various components are pretty solid, and filled in a lot of gaps. I probably could use to re-read some of it for it to really sink in.My only complaint is that the theoretical stuff around Ohms law and calculating various circuit pieces could have been placed later in the book instead of the middle. I guess I like the hands on stuff before the theory. That said, the author does walk you through a good bit of the testing technique and theory together in some of the earlier chapters. The projects at the end seem fun and cover all of the major components and topics presented elsewhere in the book. I intend to get some more of the parts described and build a few for fun.At this point I feel comfortable delving into specific projects outside the book suited to my particular interested (analog audio signal manipulation for electric guitar).

Excellent Format for Learning!
Finally a well-written book that starts from the beginning (atomic level), doesn’t skip important areas or dots that need to be connected and is written in a format that is excellent for learning. Love the “Remember”, “Tip”, “Technical Stuff” and “Warning” labels next to paragraphs worth noting! -Dummy

Great book for beginners.
This is an excellent book for beginners. It doesn’t go too deep, but if you’ve never done anything in electronics before it’s an excellent place to start. It explains the basic concepts of voltage, current, and power, Ohms law, and how and what the basic components of electronics do. There are also simple circuits you can build along the way. The author takes time to explain how to use a multi-meter, how to solder, and how to use a breadboard. Everything you really need to know to get started.

So far so good. Have to spend a little to get items for projects, but provides online resources to shop from.
so far so good, i’m only about 1/3 through it and have learned a bit. I have some electronic knowledge, but I like the projects and testing voltage drop, mA, ohms law and that other stuff I thought I knew, but it’s making it all come together. The online supply sources are great. I went to radio shack and they wanted $21.99 for a breadboard I found online for $4 in the online shopping resources found in this book. I still bought some stuff from radio shack, because…well, i don’t want them to disappear. If i purchased everything listed in this book from Radio Shack it would cost at least $200+. I got $30 worth of stuff from RS to start with, and ordered 200+ items (LED’s, resistors, capacitors, switches etc) online for another $30.

excellent coverage of the topic, terrible photo reproductions
I have had an interest in electronics for as long as I can remember, but never took the time to learn the subject. I bought this book, and before reading purchased all of the components needed. Working through the chapters is fun, and the exercises work. However, the photo reproductions are so dark that they are pretty much useless if you need to refer to them to set up the circuit properly (e.g. pp 188, 190 with transistors). I was finally, after about 45 minutes, able to get the design to work, but if the photo was much clearer, or perhaps just drawn out clearly with notes on orientation and connections, it would have taken far less time. Definitely enjoying the content and I am learning a lot. Overall, a solid beginners book!

Good refresher book if it has been decades since you took basic electronics.
I took electricity and electronics in high school about 30 years ago. I’ve recently started designing/building some of my own ideas and needed a refresher on long forgotten electronics concepts. This book was a quick read and served to quickly freshen up all of the basic knowledge I once had. I’ve since moved on to a couple of more advanced books for the information I needed for my specific uses, but was glad to have this one to quickly bring me back up to speed on the basics before advancing.

This book covers all the electronic basic component. There are examples that you can use for learning hands on.

There was a time when Dummys books were both good value and, whilst not the most erudite, were a good ‘starter’ book for the interested reader. Sadly, this is no longer so. Having bought a couple recently, both were outdated, poorly printed and largely a waste of money. Often pictures are smudged, and the paper is poor quality and thinner than a miser’s soup. Give Dummy a miss; whatever the subject, there are far better books available at competitive prices.

Great book. Goes from basic to advanced. Just as the book says, like learning ABC 😄 awesome book indeed

This book is very good, honestly. It starts off with the basics and slowly gets more complicated throughout. I also like that they talk about all the different mathematical equations you can use within your circuits, as you really feel like you’re learning a breadth of knowledge with minimal knowledge gaps that aren’t mentioned. My only gripe with the book is that all of the photos are really dark/underexposed and it makes it really hard to see what’s going on with the circuits sometimes. I understand that they may have done that in order to better illustrate the LED lights and that they are shining but making the photos as dark as they were felt really unnecessary.I didn’t want to dock the book down a star for that but if I had the option, I would have probably docked half a star.Definitely worth buying, though.

I’ve been really enjoying this book. “Electronics for Dummies” by Cathleen Shamieh has been incredibly useful. It breaks down complex topics into easy-to-understand terms, making it accessible for beginners. The clear explanations and step-by-step instructions have really helped me grasp the fundamentals of electronics. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get a solid understanding of electronics without feeling overwhelmed.
