PMDD help with supplements
I want to write this to help people diagnosed with PMDD that can’t or don’t want to get on birth control and don’t want to get on antidepressants. I am not doing this as a doctor but someone that has experienced it and found a solution that works for me. It may not work for everyone else. That being said I’ll keep it short as possible. I had severe postpartum depression after I quit breastfeeding my daughter. Very severe. I let it go too long because I didn’t know what was going on. The doctor prescribed me lexapro and it worked a little at first but it took it a full 8 weeks to work better and even then it didn’t get rid of all of the symptoms. It was a low dose but I didn’t want a big dose because I knew I would be getting off of it soon and just wanted the help for a little while. I wish I would have started my supplements then instead of the lexapro because I now know hormone imbalance was my problem. My prescription ended at 5 months after starting it and that put my daughter at 1 year. I weaned off of it and it wasn’t too bad but I started getting really weird symptoms. After I would ovulate I would go into a rage for 2 weeks with severe mood swings. I told my doctor about it and they wanted to put me on birth control which I can’t take due to the type of migraines I get. So they wanted to put me on Prozac. I took one dose of Prozac and it made me feel super weird so I was determined to find out what the root of my problem was instead of taking Prozac. I also was having pain on the right side under my ribs and my throat kept having a swollen feeling. After tons of research I found it is very common to be hypo/hyper thyroid after a baby and that estrogen dominance is very common. The pain in my side was due to excess estrogen messing up my gall bladder function and the swollen feeling in my throats was due to the hypothyroid. I also had the other symptoms that goes along with these two issues i.e. Mood swings, anxiety attacks, hot and cold flashes, sleepiness, irritability and so on. Anyway they started working within a week. I started feeling better. I took 2 DIM a day for 2 months in addition to the normal doses of the other supplements. I gradually kept feeling better but I’m an impatient person and I had been feeling bad for so long I wanted it to feel totally normal again as soon as possible. After more research I found that Curcumin helps you feel better while the DIM and Thyroid support does it’s job. It took me a long time to get to feeling this way so it would take a while for me to get out of it. It’s amazing. I sometimes take up to 9 a day but it’s on days I feel particularly terrible which always coincides with my hormone cycle (or slight hangover) but I always take at least 3 a day. No side effects or any issues with this. It’s amazing. It keeps me sane while the dim and the thyroid support correct the issues I’ve had. I just wanted to write this to give people an option to try before antidepressants. You should know within a week of these supplements will help you or not. I’m not doctor. I’m not trying to get anyone to stop taking their meds. I am simply putting out there an option that worked for me and took a lot of trial and error to figure out.So my daily supplement regimen that initially worked for me. I want to share my experience but also be transparent in that I used a few things to resolve my breast cysts and cyclical breast pain within ONE cycle !! DIM I feel was the leading factor along with IODINE—I have a holistic background and try to manage and heal things naturally .Since I discontinued breastfeeding my daughter 5 years ago, I’ve been having horribly painful , HEAVY breasts during my luteal phase (from ovulation until period, so, the 2 weeks before period ) that blow up like 2 sizes every single month.It become a norm for me and I figured it was hormonal and normal. I’ve been struggling with severe hormonal imbalances for years (23F) and the most distressing symptom has been cystic acne all around my mouth and chin, sometimes nose and forehead but usually in the hormonal area, aka the bottom half of my face. I have tried so many supplements (vitamin a, zinc, magnesium, turmeric, b5, ovasitol [which, to be fair, was a solid product]) , countless skincare products (thousands spent), and nothing ever stopped the recurring angry red massive acne that kept popping up in the same spots.This stuff really worked, like really, really worked. In less than a week I found that my face resembled that of a human being again. The acne COMPLETELY stopped, im only battling 1 active bump now which I suspect was underneath the skin already. But hey, thats a thing to look out for.TL;DR — This supplement worked like magic for me but it did have its downsides. However it is effective, affordable, and shows results FAST, so I’ll be an avid DIM enthusiast and highly recommend you try it for yourself.
