Loved it as a kid and now for my kid
This was a great learning tool for my sibs and me when young. It has not lost its purpose, even though it sounds vintage!

Old School Toy that Still Provides Fun Learning for Young School-Age Kids
This is the same machine that was sold when ET first came out in the movies. My son had one when he was young — he is 40 now so I got a new one for his 6-year-old who is quite smart and loves figuring out how to spell words. He really enjoyed it, though he only knew a few words. After doing it over and over a few times he remembered some of the words that were new. It was battery-operated–no plug-in charger like most new things have. But the batteries came in the toy so I was pleasantly surprised at not having to put new ones in. It was also good for some grandma and grandson time together.

An old familiar friend…
This was one of the best things I remember about a time in my childhood. I immediately smiled & jumped to order when I saw it. I think it sounds the same but even if slightly different, it doesn’t matter. We don’t reach to nostalgic toys because they were perfect . What I remember is that this was a comforting and familiar friend from long ago. Helped me escape my reality back then and now as a safe Autonomous adult, I’m glad to have it around. Still fun when I need a little bit of a nostalgic good time. Oh yes, and it’s reminder that I made it out of that wretched childhood far better than I would have imagined. Heaven be praised!

Just okay
I suppose this is exactly what it says it is. A retro speak and spell. There are no improvements, so you can’t have it practice specifics words, or bring it down to an easier level like CVC words, or anything like that. The dated controls can be pretty frustrating.

Speak and Spell – can’t beat a classic
I recently purchased the Speak and Spell, and it has been such a fun and educational experience! The toy is well-made, with clear, easy-to-understand speech and bright, engaging lights. It’s a great way to help kids learn spelling and vocabulary while having fun. My child loves the interactive games, and I’ve already noticed improvement in their spelling skills. It’s a classic toy that combines learning with play in the best way possible. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for an entertaining, educational gift!

Fast delivery, good price and excellent learning tool for a one year old
I love the vintage look about this unit. I would certainly buy again. I got this as a Christmas gift for my coworker’s one year old son and he loves it, he carries it all over the house. I would highly recommend this for anyone with a young toddler to start their learning skills early.

Can’t understand words.
We bought this item 2 weeks ago and we’re not impressed. The biggest problem is trying to understand the it’s saying. After my son and husband got frustrated with it, I have it a try. The words it uses are not on the level stated and the words are not clear. After only having it for 2 weeks, it’s been used one hour. I’m putting it in my garage sale this weekend. I will probably get a few dollars back. Big disappointment!!!! Uses words that young readers don’t spell or use yet.

A Nostalgic Try, but Not Quite the Original
I recently picked up the retro-inspired Speak & Spell for my kids, hoping it would bring back some of that classic 80s charm. While it does capture some of the nostalgia with its iconic graphics and gameplay, it’s just not quite the same as the original. The voice, while trying to replicate the classic speech synthesizer, ends up being more annoying than endearing. It’s a bit disappointing that it doesn’t fully capture the essence of the original, but despite this, it has proven to be a useful learning tool for my younger kids. They enjoy the various play modes and the different challenge levels, which keep them engaged. Overall, it’s a good educational toy, though it falls short of the classic experience I remember.

Was searching Speak & Spell since long. When I was a child I used play and learn with speak n spell and speak n math’s.Not getting speak n math’s but at last got the spell one. Can see my kids loving it.A simple gadget for kids to learn in this modern era. Simple and nostalgic

I had one of these when I was around 6 years old and it helped my spelling immeasurably. Years later I would be diagnosed as having Dyslexia (as an adult) and the assessor believed that my time with the Speak & Spell was what made it so hard for my learning challenge to be discovered. Essentially, I had gotten used to seeing the words as an image, which is why I can spell well, despite having some issues reading from certain fonts and page colours. I brought this for my 6 year old granddaughters who adore it and have barely put it down since they got one for Christmas. To see the joy on their faces as they play with the Speak & Spell (even with the authentic American accent and spelling quirks), takes me right back to a happier time in my early youth. It makes their enjoyment of it feel so validating and is a testament to the effectiveness of the product and its design. Kids everywhere have way more advanced screens and sound on the most common of devices, but there is something to be said for the benefit of nostalgia, intertwined with shared child hood experiences that have 40 years between them. Couldn’t recommend enough.

The box says original voice synthesiser but it doesn’t sound like the old one at all. The display is different to original too, worse even! How’s that possible? Feel a bit deceived after spending good money. No really happy with the purchase. It’s not like the original, if that’s what you’re expecting. What do I do now?
