Great Taste and Absorption
This is probably my first Amazon review. I had a thyroidectomy and as a result my parathyroids stopped working requiring that I be on calcium the rest of my life. The surgery also left me with some swallowing issues. Because of the swallowing issues, I have been ordering liquid calcium which worked fine — until I needed to fly. Because the liquid does not come in a prescription bottle, and I need more than the 3 allowable ounces, I have been having to check my bags for longer trips. After a lot of research (I have a PhD in research from a top medical school), I found these on Amazon. Again, because of the swallowing issues, I was dubious — but these are fantastic! They taste fine and I don’t wait for them to dissolve in my mouth.. I just chew them up and swallow them. I’ve even dissolved them in water and drank them down with no issues. (I looked on the manufacturer website and chewing and dissolving in water is fine since absorption takes place in the intestine). They are a bit pricey — but the convenience makes them well worth the money. I have not had my calcium levels measured since I started using these — but I have not had any hypo-calcemia symptoms (e.g. numb lips)… I will update this when I get labs drawn. I expect my labs to be better as I can take these on a schedule versus liquid (Not only can I take them on a plane, I can take them with me around town when running errands. I set my time for every 4 hours and take them). Again, this is my first Amazon review to the best of my recollection… but I want others that have the same swallowing issues as me to know how easy these are to take. UPDATE: FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER A YEAR (SINCE SURGERY) MY CALCIUM VALUES WERE IN NORMAL RANGE. NO MORE HYPOCALCEMIA SYMPTOMS. SO, TO CLOSE THIS OUT — THIS PRODUCT WORKS. IT’S PRICEY… BUT IT WORKS.

Benefit with slow release CITRACAL!
If you are looking for the best calcium and vitamin D supplement as advised by your physician, this may be the one you want. Read the label carefully as all calcium tablets available are certainly not the same even if it is another Citracal product. The slow release 1200 is taken 2 caplets once daily! Citracal also makes a 1200 mg NOT slow release and is taken 2 caplets twice a day. I made this mistake, thinking what could be the difference other than lower price only to discover my lab resulted in a below desired level for calcium. In my case I just did not consistently get 2 caplets in twice a day. These slow release are still very large and not simple to swallow but managable and provided what was needed. Always ask your physician but I found these to be perfect and also strongly recommended by my MD. No after taste or odors. Plenty of D3 in the daily dose as well.

Slow release so it enters the body all day, as your body needs it. Vitamin D3 to help absorb the calcium. I have used this brand for years. Bone scan shows good bone density.I also buy the Citracal with Micronutrients aka – zinc, copper & manganese.

As I read, I became more and more excited, I called my PCP to check on the verity of the claims made but Citracal …….it was true….the days, months, years, and decades of choking down a pill fit only for a mule, and at that – four times a day…. They were over, I was released from my bondage to the evil giant monster Calcium pills.These Citracal tablets are time-released, contain the appropriate amount of Vitamin D, , and……heavens to murgatroyd – one takes only two per day, at one time in the morning. Well, needless to say, my world has changed, little birds circle my head, twittering a merry tune as I stride purposefully down the street. My Bone Density Scans come back so perfect that my gynecologist dances in glee, and mentions the term “steel girders”, as he frolics around my scans.These pills are not tiny, but they are so much better than anything that came before. I take them on an empty stomach in the morning, with no issues. Although, some have mentioned that they experience slight distress when taking these on an empty stomach, I never have. If one does, take the pills with food. I now have these on my Subscribe and Save list, and receive a few bottles every month or so.If you want to be strong and tall, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, I recommend these tablets. Should you just wish to be able to walk straight and tall down the street, no bounding, these will also take care of you.Why oh why did it take so long for single dose, time-release Calcium to reach our shores?
