This book ROCKS!!!
This book was an AWESOME READ! I struggled to nurse with my first son because he had a poor latch and was a VERY slow eater – 45 mins+ at each feeding! (Try doing that every 2 hours and you get NOTHING else done in life!) I ended up pumping exclusively for 9 months and it about wore me out. I was a slave to that pump and to the clock! When I got pregnant again 5 yrs later I was determined to better educate myself about nursing so I could slam dunk the nursing experience with my new baby. I came across this book and read it cover to cover. Within the first 2 chapters I found out I was doing at least 3 things WRONG in nursing my first son! Let me tell you… this book was a GOD SEND and a huge eye opener. This book had a TON of information in it. My 2nd son is now 8.5 mos old and is a nursing champ! I also started taking Fenugreek daily (2 pills in AM and 2 in PM) from the first week I was home from the hospital. Let me tell you – I am a milk making machine!!! I have about a 4-5 month supply in a deep freezer and most of that came from the extra milk I pumped AFTER NURSINGS. I think because I educated myself and understood the milk making process, how to latch appropriately, how to position myself to be comfortable, etc, I could relax, take it easy and enjoy my nursing relationship with my son…. thus making more milk. It was also a great reference tool many times in the first several months.Nursing is certainly NOT easy for everyone. And it is a huge committment no matter who you are. (I stuggled with the latch with my 2nd son for several weeks. But, I didn’t give up & I consulted a professional who helped me fix the problem quickly!) Since reading this book I have purchased 3 more copies to give as baby shower gifts to future nursing mommies and have loaned my copy out a couple of times already. After talking to other moms who gave up nursing quickly I am SO glad I purchased this book. I spent maybe $12 for the book but it has helped me SAVE Over $1200 by not buying formula. Seems that most of my friends have babies with sensitivities to every formula except the SUPER EXPENSIVE one @ $40+/can tub. (That is because a mom’s milk is MADE for HUMANS!! Cow’s milk is not!!) I’ll bet they are kicking themselves for not sticking with the nursing! Nursing is FREE…My son is also super healthy and has only gotten a little sniffle once in 8.5 mos(and he goes to a nursery 5 days a week!) I attribute that to his strong immune system compliments of my “boobie juice!” (as my husband calls it!) Yay – only well check doctor visits ROCK!If you are on the fence about this book… Just get it and read it. You won’t be disappointed. The info can only help you. When you are done with it… pass it on and help another mommy out! This book is GREAT too! Get them BOTH: The Breastfeeding Mother’s Guide to Making More Milk: Foreword by Martha Sears, RNCheck out this nursing cover too! I use mine every day! Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover: YokoHappy Nursing to you all! Enjoy those sweet babies! They grow WAY too fast…—-May 23, 2014 —–I just wanted to give a quick update. I LOVED this book, obviously. After implementing all of the tips from this book I was successfully able to nurse exclusively for 16 months!!! He never had a sip of formula. I did pump a lot after I went back to work but I always nursed when I was home with him. The bottles were taken to the nursery when I was working or frozen for later use. STILL recomending this book 2.5 yrs later! 🙂

How too find out what advice applies to you
This is the best and easiest book for breastfeeding. I read several, this is the only one you need. I had a very successful 2 yr experience thanks to this book. It teaches you how to recognize what will work for you, and how to ignore valid tips that do work for someone else but won’t for you due to your unique “storage capacity” (so important!). If relies on a perfect blend of biological science, (not industrial manufacturing science), as well as natural intuition.

I buy it for every new mom I know!
I knew I wanted to breastfeed my first child, but was scared to death. I didn’t have any close friends or families who had recently breastfed and people I did talk to scared me about it (it hurts, too much work, etc. Another army wife who had just PSCed to Alaska, texted me the title of this book before she had her baby and I’m so glad she did! I went to Borders (when it was still around obviously) and was amazed at how many breastfeeding books there were. To be honest, I almost didn’t buy this one (even with the recommendation from a friend), but I’m so glad I did. I bought this one and another and I haven’t even looked at the other one! This had everything I needed to know. It was a very easy read; it provides all the information you need to make the right decisions for you and your baby. It is not judgemental at all (I’ve sent it to a couple pregnant girlfriend who were on the fence about breastfeeding and after reading the book, they felt way more informed and were excited to try!) I would recommend reading the book BEFORE giving birth (like you’ll have time to read afterwards..hah! It was SO helpful to me, especially when I got really sick and had to go to the hospital for surgery when my son was only a month old. I couldn’t breastfeed him for a few days and was devastated that he had to drink formula. Without my pump and the advice and guidance in this book, I’m sure I would have dried up and thrown in the towel. But my son is only a month away from his year birthday (a year was my goal) and I’m happy to say he hasn’t needed any formula since I was discharged from the hospital. Highly recommend this book to all expecting mommies!PROs:-explains how milk supply works (not intuitive-I feel a lot of women wouldn’t “dry up” sooner than they wanted if they knew this info)-explains how babies are naturally hard-wired to breasfeet (human milk for human babies)CON:-in the version I have (earlier version, pink cover), there’s no index (not a problem if you’re reading it through beforehand but would be nice to consult after you have the baby and don’t have time to look for info)

Highly Recommend
If you are planning to breast feed for the first time, I highly recommend this book. I was extremely nervous that I would not be successful breastfeeding. I read this book cover to cover before my baby was born, and I felt like it provided me with all of the information that I needed to know. It also relieved my anxiety. There are chapter summaries at the end of each section that are extremely helpful. Additionally, there are tables and graphs. The book is written in a way that is easy to understand. My baby is currently 7 months old and I have been successful with exclusively breastfeeding/breastmilk.

A must for ‘soon to be’ Mums who are determined to breastfeed. No time to read it once baby arrives, but I read it before and then could quickly refer back to it when needed. Gives excellent advice and tips. I managed to breastfeed for 20 months and I credit this book for that. Brilliant

Simply amazing description of what every breastfeeding mother needs to know. It helped me to better understand and solve a lot of insecurities / doubts that I initially had.I would definitley recommend to read this book before the delivery of the baby so the breastfeeding mother would get the opportunity of a great start.

This is THE book about breastfeeding. I read many books about the subject and I think this is most informative and complete I’ve read. During the first days and weeks of breastfeeding, I went back to the book dozens of times! I especially liked the chapters about how it should be during the first days/weeks. Breastfeeding is a worrisome process and this book was very reassuring. Every time we had a question or wondered if something was normal, this book answered well! If you plan on breastfeeding and have no one close to you to help you figure it out, this is THE book to have on hand. The only thing I would have liked is more details on how it should go after the first month. Overall,it is the best book I’ve read on breastfeeding.

This is an excellent breastfeeding book. It has given me the confidence to know that my instincts were right. My newborn wanted to be feed every hour during the daytime for the first two week. I was happy to know that this was normal. The book is well structured from explaining how mommy and baby are both hardwired for breastfeeding (i.e., it’s totally natural), to how to create a good latch, to understanding your baby’s feeding patterns and then dealing with common breastfeeding problems. It also provides good tips on how to breastfeed at night (and during the day) so that you minimize the level of effort required to breastfeed (This is key when you have a baby who wants to eat every hour… at the beginning). The book’s motto is any amount of breastfeeding is better than none… so even if you also want to provide some formula to your baby, for whatever reason you may have, this book would be helpful. This book does seem to encourage co-sleeping. Although this is not recommended by Health Canada, what I have found practical is having my baby in the bassinet in my room and breastfeeding my baby in bed at night (sitting in my bed, not sleeping with the baby). This is another tip from the book.
