Sold! Then an update… AND THEN ANOTHER UPDATE…
Update…My problem was that I did not tighten the phone holder to it’s base well enough. Be sure to do that! I have now recommended it to many. It is great. I really do like it. I think one should adjust the base into the vent here and there for reassurance of any possible slippage due to heavy phones. I have a XR with a simple case. And this holds well. I found just the right place to place the metal piece inside the case. So it sits in the perfect spot on my vent in my car. This is a great device!After reading all the reviews, I was sold. I was happy about 3 things: 1)The holding power of the magnetic device, 2)The fact it would stay in the air vent, and 3) that it would not move or shift around – that it was strong. And I opted NOT to use the tape or strip to hold the magnetic thing. I decided to put it in my phone case. But, I had just purchased a Lamicall finger ring stand; and the base attached itself quickly to that ring stand as well as the magnetic piece I place in my phone case. That sucker holds VERY WELL! I placed it in the vent. It doesn’t necessarily allow the vent to move. And I am extremely cold natured, so I like the heat to run on high… but away from my face. So I haven’t figured out yet if the heat will destroy my phone; or if I will have to turn the air vent off or move my device to another (further away) vent. But, it did stay very well in the vent. Lastly, I was excited at the fact reviewers mentioned it held the phone in place. Well…I was disappointed in that regard. The minute I placed my phone on the device, it went down. I have a 10XR. I have basic hard place/silicone case and the light weight Lamicall finger ring. It is not much heavier than most phones. And it did not stay up…for anything. Luckily, for me… because I placed the finger ring a little lower on the back of my phone and the metal piece in my phone cover a little higher up, when the device dropped/lowered, my phone touched on the dash just enough that it sits up so that I can still see it very well. But I will not be able to turn it to the right, left or up. It will simply always slant down since it does not hold the supposed heavy phone I have. But it is still a great feature, and I will use it!Over the weekend, I noticed the phone fall off the device twice. I am didn’t want to have to use my ring to hold it, but I may have to do that. It’s either that or use the black metal piece on the outside of my phone’s case which would ruin the prettiness of my phone cover. So, I am a little disappointed… and had to move my star from a 4 to a 3.

Great phone holder…works very well!!
My wife and I both have Chevy Equinox’s (2013 and 2015…so same generation) and they have an extremely recessed CD slot in the middle of the car near the bottom of all the A/C controls. I never use a CD anymore and thought of some type of phone holder that could go there and take up the empty space. This CD slot holder is perfect because it fills in the void and recess to bring my phone flush with the rest of the dash and console. It also has some very strong magnets so it holds on to the phone extremely well and is a very snug fit inside the CD slot. I like that it gives the optional shims for a tighter fit depending on your cars CD slot. As others have mentioned, I didn’t even need to actually adhere to the metal plate to my phone/case. I simply placed the metal piece inside my phone case between my phone and the case on the backside and it still works very well. Super solid and doesn’t vibrate and wiggle. I attached a few pictures but I cannot recommend this enough. I received it on a Friday and we were taking a road trip so I wanted to test it out before telling my wife about it. We got about 30 minutes into the drive and she wanted me to order one for her too she loved it that much. Would, and did, buy again!

Take room on the dashboard, but rock solid
I’m tired of using the adhesive based phone holder on my dashboard. The California sun isn’t kind on anything on the dashboard, including suction cups, adhesive, etc. Things keep falling off easily when the weather change.This holder uses the CD as an anchor. I lose the use of my CD player (but who use CDs nowaday?) The magnetic pad is strong, and I only need to replace the magnetic pad on my cell phone case when I switch to a new case or new phone. Putting the phone on, and taking it off is quick and problem free. No more fumbling with the unhook mechanism.Love this little thing, and I hope they’ll come up with a new design that doesn’t use the CD player as anchor.

Someone else said they have a Mazda CX-5 2016.5 and it worked well for them. I have the same model and year so I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and it has been working very well so far (I’ve been driving for Grubhub so it gets a lot of use). I first tried to put the metal pad inside the case, (so it wouldn’t show) but my phone is too heavy, the case is too thick, and it would not stay on the magnet that way. I adhered the larger rectangular metal pad to the outside of the case (using the adhesive that’s already attached to the metal pads) and it sticks to the magnet like glue, very secure.The CD slot, on the CX-5, is directly above the Infotainment screen so it does block the top of the back up camera display a little but it’s easy to remove the phone when backing up (and I don’t even need to do that most of the time). The whole thing wobbles a little bit but no more than any windshield suction cup device I’ve ever used.Overall, I would say I am very happy with it and had a hard time trying to find things to caution about it. It was delivered very quickly and it was easy to install. Depending on where your CD slot is located, or if you use your CD player often, I might advise you to get something else. but other than that, I recommend it.
