Great game gets an update, but I’m not sure yet if it’s all improvements *Updated*
I have been a fan of Betrayal at House on the Hill 2nd Edition for years, but since my son took that one to college I was excited to pick up the new 3rd Edition. The new version has been updated and streamlined quite a lot, and I think all the changes are individually great. Taken collectively, I’m wondering if maybe the game is now a bit too streamlined. I need a few more plays to be sure, but I suspect it strongly. The Good:The new artwork is much more vibrantly colored, without being cartoony. The Haunt Roll can no longer trigger on the first or second Omen cardThere are significantly fewer tiny little tokens to keep track of.The overall gameplay is the same as the previous version, and there are still 50 different possible Haunts. The players can now choose a background reason for why they are exploring the House, which affects the style of Haunts they will trigger, rather than it being completely random. The Less Good:Fewer Omen cards may mean less thematic variety in the HauntsUnpainted grey figurines are less immersive than the fully painted figures from the previous version.Certain rooms have had their special effects simplified, nerfed, or removedPlayers may no longer steal items from other players, so less interactionPlayer haunt information is now open – no keeping secrets from your opponentsSo, in a nutshell, it’s still a great game but I have concerns that it may have been over-simplified. I’ll have to play a few more games to check.UPDATE:I have now played several more games, and I regret to say that my initial impressions were right. Don’t misunderstand me, it’s still a great game and highly recommended, and I will still play it and enjoy it, but for people who played and loved the 2nd Edition, this one will feel kind of nerfed in comparison. If you never played the 2nd Edition, or played it and found it too fiddly or overcomplicated, then this version may be exactly what you’re looking for.

A fun game when you need an afternoon adventure
This is not a quick game, but it’s a fun way to spend the afternoon on a rainy, cold or snowy day. We played as adults and teens, and our teens played with friends, and all groups found it fun and entertaining. Lots of different adventure options, but best directed at people who really love board games, as it does require some setup and reading. Much lighter than D&D, but more than Uno or Monopoly.

So Much Fun!
So much fun for the entire family! This was a great game to play as a family. Each time it’s a little different and keeps everyone on their toes.

One of the most fun games I have ever played!
I LOVE this game, it comes with all sorts of components and is worth the price and more! The plastic figures are durable and well detailed, and the game-play is different every time. I brought it to my acting camp to play with friends and we enjoyed it incredibly. The 12+ rating has nothing to do with the difficulty of the game, but has more to do with the gruesome parts (the event cards). There are no gruesome images , just descriptions. I played with my 6 year-old cousin as well as some 10 year-old friends and they enjoyed it just as well. This game has an infinite amount of possible game-play combinations because you and your family/friends build the board as you go, and the scenario card you choose at the beginning decides which haunt goes into play. It is honestly the most fun I’ve had in a while, and I highly recommend!

One of my favorites
this is one of my favorite games I have the first and second editions of this asd also made my own minis for them, this one comes with much better minis and an updated rule set/play style. The reason I took off 1 star is because I feel like they really over simplified the stores and play styles of the 3rd edition and while it is still fun to play I feel like the game replay value has been nerfed with everything else.

Great Game
Betrayal at House on the Hill is an interactive ghost story for a group. It starts off collaboratively, with each person taking turns to uncover new rooms, collect powerful items, modify stats, and take chances with the dice, but eventually the haunt will begin. One player (usually) becomes the traitor, with new powerful abilities and minions. The rest of you will be fighting for your lives, trying to achieve your objectives before the traitor finishes his. The layout of the house is randomized every game, and there is a long list of different haunts, so the experience is different every time, providing great replayability.I love this game. I have an earlier edition in my collection, and I bought another for a friend on deep discount. This edition is even nicer because it has plastic figures instead of cardboard cutouts.

It’s kinda fun and seems to be based a little on the Dungeons and Dragons players handbook. Each selects a character and needs to build a route out to finish the game. So of there are not enough of you and some are skipping turns (which happens too often) you run out of options and nobody can finish

Leuk spel met veel verschillende verhaallijnen, waardoor het spannend blijft.
