Fast suction
I got this because I recently got a fish and a small tank. I thought this would be a good item to vacuum the food and fish debris each week between full tank water changes. I have a small one gallon betta tank and it was beginning to look cloudy after only one week. I attempted to do a gravel vacuum with a partial water change. Although I saw a lot of food debris in the vacuum tube, I couldn’t tell that it was being vacuumed out of the tube at all, which was disappointing. However, it DID siphon all the water out of the tank really quickly. I ended up having to do a full water cleaning of my small tank, since it didn’t vacuum out the debris like I hoped it would.Since my tank is so small, I can easily just dump it out, clean and refill without this device. I’m keeping it through, in case I eventually decide to get a bigger fix tank. This hose seems like it would be a lifesaver for emptying out larger and heavier fish tanks! I did take a way a star rating because of the lack of vacuuming as described.

This works well. Not fancy but doesn’t need to be!
This fish tank vacuum is a breeze to use. I think that’s really important with a fish vacuum because the process isn’t fun, so having a tool that works easily is helpful. My tank is a column tank and it’s fairly high, so I needed to add extra tubing on in order to have enough to clip to my bucket. Was very easy to do using some tuning I already had on hand. The larger tube that you hold on to in the tank has a bit of a grid filter at the top of it to keep plant debris and fish from going up the tube. It has a clip to attach the hose to your bucket, and the bulb on the exit end works well. Just squeeze it once or twice to get the water flowing. No more sucking on a hose and getting a mouthful of fish water! The bulb on the end if you look closely has ‘in’ and ‘out’ written on it so that you don’t get confused as to which side is which. My tank has a sand bed and I was able to lightly sift through the top layer without the sand going up the hose which was great. The only thing I wish that this hose had was a clamp for the mid hose section so that you could adjust the flow rate while cleaning certain aspects of the tank. Won’t knock a start off for that though. Also the tubes attached well to the hand held portion and also the bulb pump. No air gets sucked in around the part where things attach.

Great for small tanks
I got this to replace the aquarium vacuum I had that did not have the siphon bulb. I got one with the bulb but it was so cheap the vacuum end bent and collapsed when I tried to shift it though the sea glass on the bottom of the tank. This one has both, stronger vacuum and the siphon bulb. I needed this for my betta tank. It does move the water quickly and you have to work fast in an 8 gallon tank to get the debris off the bottom before too much water is drained out. This vacuum replaces 3 that were not as nice. The only thing I would change is putting a piece of tubing at the other end of the siphon bulb. I usually drain into gallon size bottles sitting on the floor and then use the fish water for my plants. Not a big deal I can pull a piece of tubing off one of the other vacuums and put it on the end. I like the clip that attaches it to the side of the tank and I’ve never had one with a filter, would be great for smaller gravel. I will update after I’ve used it a few times.

Meant for 20 gal+
The hook is great for pure water changes, the squeeze ball is softer than I expected so anyone with a strong enough grip to carry water buckets around is going to have an easy time with this. Just make sure to put it on the right way, put your hand on the ball to figure out which way the suction is going or else you’ll wind up blowing bubbles in the tank. I had to give it a few tests. It’s so easy I can just water my plants with the dirty tank water from the hose itself. No more slurping down nitrates. The filters inside the tube and ball are grand the tube is not a fine mesh like the ball though, gonna want to still do a net cover still but it keeps bigger things out. The ball is a fine mesh filter though so anything tiny is gonna get caught in the hose. Continue to use safety measures around tiny creatures.

Works Well
This siphon/pump works well for 10-30 gal tanks. I have other siphons that work much better for larger tanks, primarily due to the larger/longer siphon head and thicker tubes but this one is sufficient for smaller tanks.First, the pump is adequate to create low pressure and generate the vacuum. It doesn’t take much effort and I’m thankful of that. The tubing isn’t too long which means you’ll only be able to go so deep and also have the hose reach comfortably into your bucket. Also, the siphon head is quite small so it would be tedious if you’re using this to cover a large aquarium floor. For the low cost, this siphons design make sense. I would only use this if you’re looking for a no frills version or to start your kid on aquarium upkeep. If you’ve got a large tank, definitely look for other options.

Must have.
If you own a fish tank this is for you! I’m not sure why I went so long without one but I’ll definitely always have one now! Works amazing! Safe for your fishy’s, and it’s a great value for your money! Super easy to clean, and makes taking water out a breeze! Built nice, and packs away nice and easy.
