Great Aquarium Set!
General “not-LEGO” review:As a 90s kid who grew up slightly obsessed with LEGO but hadn’t built a set in almost twenty years until recently, I was blown away by the current state of play in the greater “building brick toy” ecosystem. When my brothers and I were growing up, the options for off-brand bricks were sparse: MegaBloks were noticeably lower quality than the big L, and if we happened to find anything other than those two (dollar store, etc) it was typically so bad that the pieces weren’t even worth adding into our bucket of bricks. I recently stumbled back into this world through Amazon Vine, and was stoked to discover the seemingly endless wealth of off-brand sets available, even if that stoke was a bit tempered pending a general assessment of quality.I’ve now built over a hundred sets of “not-LEGO” bricks found here on Amazon, and I couldn’t be more impressed by the amazing options out there, in terms of set variety, quality, and (especially) price. These sets I’ve received account for literally tens of thousands of bricks, yet I can count on one hand the total number of pieces missing. Sure, the regular presence of extra pieces might be indicative of less-than-stellar quality control practices by these manufacturers, but it seems like the errors are overwhelmingly biased to the side of surplus, and I’m not going to complain about getting a few extra bricks per set. Feel and fit are generally great, I’d say 99% up to big L standards for studded pieces and even a shade better for technic pieces. Colors aren’t always Pantone-perfect between sets (though internally they’re consistent), minifigures are rarely included (and always slightly “off”; this is due to the minifigs being strictly patent-protected, unlike most bricks), and some accessory bits (sails, stickers, etc) are of more variable quality; but the most noticeable difference in my experience is just the lack of a tiny “LEGO” on every single ABS stud. It also seems that many of these manufacturers aren’t beholden to the same copyright restrictions as the bigger western companies, so you’re likely to encounter more unlicensed/unofficial sets from various IP (“Harry Wizard”, “Star Farm”…), as well as MOCs that failed to launch. If you love the look of this set; if you want to maximize your piece-per-dollar ratio to fill out a bucket/chest/room; or if you just want to build for the sake of building, I’m happy to say that this set (or pretty much any other you can find nowadays) is worth the investment.Set-specific notes:This is probably my favorite aquarium set I’ve built (out of…at least four), mostly because of the translucent and lit-up backdrop / tunnel. The characters are well-sculpted, the environment is full without being cluttered, and the set does a good job of leveraging multiple building techniques to keep it interesting. Five stars!

Missing Several Pieces
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 12yr old daughter who loves Legos and building things. She also very much loves sea creatures and always asks for a fish tank for her room. I thought this was a perfect gift for her without the hassle of taking care of live fish. I felt this was an inexpensive alternative to the very expensive Lego sets. She was super excited to start building her set soon after opening on Christmas morning. We got a card table all set up in her room and she began to follow the directions to put her aquarium together. Not 10 minutes into the process she said she was missing a part. We brushed it off as she didn’t know what she was looking for or just missed it or misplaced it. We just told her to skip over that piece and come back to it, that she would find it later. Well, another 2-3 minutes go by, and she came to us to tell us she was missing more pieces. She has only gotten a few pages into her build and is already missing over 10+ key pieces. Some small but some larger base pieces. She is so frustrated that she stopped building and now the kit sits on her card table, and she hasn’t touched in since Christmas day. I’m not sure what to do but don’t make the same mistake we did and disappoint your kiddo or yourself. I feel as though I wasted money purchasing something that can’t be built fully due to missing pieces.

Confusing Build
This took two adult children to put together because the instructions were complicated and difficult. The pieces weren’t easy to put together. Some you would have to fight to get them to fit into the piece and others wouldn’t stay on the piece. There was a lot of complaining building this set. This is as far as the kids got to building/completing the set because they were too frustrated to continue with the build. While it looks like the name brand, the plastic isn’t has heavy feeling as the name brand, they do not build like the name brand! For the price, I think it was expensive and think you could get a better deal and quality (let’s not talk about building easier) from the name brand.

Overall a pretty good building brick set
This set was certainly not up to the standards of the name brand models. While it was interesting to build and engaging as well as a really nice concept, there were issues. The model lacks stability in general if you touch it the wrong way it will come apart or pieces will fall off. Sometimes the bricks were hard to get to go together but easy to fall apart later. The instructions could have been clearer. I would NOT recommend this for very young children. The manufacturer says 8-12+ and I would definitely put it in the 12+ category. I was not missing any pieces and the toy was what it was advertised to be, i guess my -1 star is primarily for the fragility of the finished model. This is recommended with reservations. Older kids, and it wont be something that you can touch after building.

the wide build option was my favorite
The tunnel build option reminds me of the Georgia Aquarium where they have (or at least had) a long tunnel just like this. But I didn’t think it would display as well as the full length option so if you have the room I’d say that really is the way to go.Detail wise, well I shouldn’t need to tell you that it’s just loaded with stuff to see but do take note that most of these details are single stud connection points and so they are fragile. They’re also quite densely arranged so those two things combined mean that there is an element of patience required in the assembly process, expect to knock a few pieces loose here and there especially if you have large adult fingers.Instructions offer the typical building aids; arrows to guide placement, prior piece fading and whatnot. Bags are numbered for a phased assembly process.

Hard to build and keep together!
Parts don’t all line up right. Hard to keep together as you build it. Definitely not easy for a child do build alone.
