If your pups could talk, they’d say buy this!
Months ago, my three dogs all went into kidney failure: although I cannot prove it, I suspect it was something they ate. At the same time they were hospitalized, at least four other young and healthy dogs from our area suddenly died. My research told me the common denominator was their commercialized diet. When I finally brought my dogs home, I knew I had to do something to get them to eat and to insure the quality of their food. I also had to worry about the kidney damage they had suffered.Since then, I’ve done some reading. As a a result, I’ve discovered most commercial dog food is a toxic blend of euthanized cats and dogs, diseased livestock, roadkill, artificial flavorings and preservatives. No wonder our dogs suffer from allergies, seizures, cancers…we’re poisoning them! Have you ever noticed the strange fact that dog waste can sit in a yard for weeks or even months without breaking down? Now that my dogs eat homemade food, this is no longer the case, as they are no longer being plied with preservatives. This book is great. My dogs have never been happier or healthier. They no longer beg for table scraps. Their coats are shinier and their teeth cleaner. One of my dogs, a Pomeranian, had his coat trimmed short several years ago, and it never really came back in. Now, as a result of his homemade diet, it is once again lush and beautiful. Another dog, a bichon/poodle mix, had problems with skin allergies. All symptoms have disappeared. My Yorkie used to suffer from a nervous stomach; I no longer worry about coming home to an unpleasant mess.I highly recommend this book: for the price of a squeaky toy, you’ll have a guide to feeding your dog that’s loaded with great and easy recipes.

    cooking for dogs
I bought this as a gift for a family that has a dog with allergies. Between medications and Vet visits it gets expensive to feed him. I suggested they ditch the processed food and cook what dogs can eat. Commercial pet food isn’t exactly cheap. It’s cheaper to get the kids to cook for him and he loves it. The book comes up with practical advise, little known facts and recipes you wouldn’t think of yourself. It even has DESSERTS. Their oldest daughter does the cooking so far.She started with a dessert. It’s fun for the family, and you get a chance to taste it. Who would do that with a can of (whatever?) So, what’s not to like?It arrived quickly in gd shape.

    Cute Recipe Book
I originally bought this book for my female minpin but since her passing I couldn’t bear to keep it. I did flip through the recipes and they seem easy to make. I gifted this unused brand new book to my sister

    real beginnings
Finally, a decent book on real food for dogs! It is a good start on the proper way to feed your dog meat and veggies. Within a week, my dogs stopped scratching from the alergies from dog food. I recommend this book to anyone who wants real food for their pets.

    A good cookbook for dogs
I picked up this book because my partner at the time had a whippet who refused to eat kibble. There wasn’t a recipe she didn’t love, and every meal in this book is carefully crafted to ensure a dog’s nutritional requirements are met. These days I’m on my own with an Australian Cattledog, and we’ve left commercial food behind. I still use the recipes in this book, though I feed my current dog a different diet and not everything is cooked. If you’re looking to get away from commercial food–something I highly recommend–and want to feed your dog a healthier diet that won’t break your budget, get this book. You won’t regret it.

    Great Recipes
I have two huskies, and they are very picky eaters. They also have sensitive stomachs which makes it very difficult to find the right food for them. I was spending about $150 a month on food and treats for them before buying this book. Now I have cut my budget down, and am able to feed them home made food! Its a win-win for all 3 of us!

    Wholesome?
I received my copy of Real Food for Dogs a few days ago and I’m very disappointed in it. I’m slowly changing my kitchen to one that is organic and healthy and I must say, this book is neither of those. I was surprised that they recommend white flour, white rice, salt , baby food and even canned cream of mushroom soup! Veterinarian approved? Who are these guys kidding? These recipes have very little nutritional value and I would be concerned about feeding my dog this way on a regular basis. I don’t feed my family this stuff and I certainly wouldn’t feed my dog this way. I’m waiting for another book to arrive and until then I’m modifying these recipes with healthy ingredients that I’ve found through research on the web – things like brown rice, flax seed, barley and the like. I use the recipes as guides to give me an idea of the percentage of meat/vegie/whole grains I should combine for my dog’s food. Other than that, this book is a joke. I would not recommend it.

    Excellent recipes for your furbabies
Excellent recipes for your furbabies. You will most likely find a few that you really like and are easy to make and keep making those over and over but good to have this book for when you want to change it up.

We used 2 or 3 of the recipes in this book, and I attribute those recipes to my dog’s longer and healthier life. Well worth the small investment and you and your dog will love it. Watch the excitement when any of the cooking is taking place. He always knows when I’m making his food.

I only really bought this book as I thought the front cover picture was great! When you look at the recipes they are full of zany stuff that dogs don’t really need or would appreciate. I never met a gourmet dog, they will all pretty much eat anything, they’re not like cats. So save your money, you don’t really need this book.
