Five Stars
This an update review after using the product for a year. This full face mask is a life saver if you respiratory issues. Like some reviewers have said, it is way “overkill” for the casual wood worker. However if you are concerned about severe respiratory problems, this product is what you need if you want to get back in the shop. I do fine woodworking with exotic woods, many of which are respiratory irritants. With the fine sanding necessary for wood pens and small tools, I have no fear of sanding up a cloud of dust! You are safe, and used correctly you will not have breathing problems.I recommend this very highly. Having said that there are a few things I would like to see changed. 1. battery is very heavy and cumbersome. I have seen several work arounds with using a phone power supply. 2. the filter gets in the way of fine work like using a lathe for close work. Someone mentioned a hose adapter to put the filter on your waist. Good Idea. Also, you cannot wear glasses unless you have an optician to adapt a pair of glasses to fit the inside of the mask. Good luck finding one. That does not take away the 5 Stars, because it’s a trade off for being safe from respiratory problems when using your shop!

Where’s the battery charger!
After receiving two of these, I realized none of the parts resembled a battery charger. Considering it is a rechargeable battery, this is an important component. I went to the 3M website for this exact device and it has the same photo Amazon uses to advertise it, which basically is limited to one photo without showing the various parts that come with the unit. To make it even more confounding, the User Manual doesn’t show the battery charger with the parts but gives you a part number if you want to order one. Before I purchased the device, I read the reviews and one question/answer specifically stated “it comes with a battery charger.” But other reviews recommend a “smart charger” to improve the charging aspect. Very disappointed in Amazon with this one and it is likely a return in the making.

This is a game changer
I’m a woodworker and discovered that I’m highly allergic to ziricote. If you’re not familiar, it’s a type of rosewood. I had been using a 3m half face respirator with organic vapor cartridges, but I soon discovered that simply getting the dust on my face was causing the bulk of my problems.I looked at a lot of positive pressure systems, and this one seemed to be the best quality for the lowest price. If you go higher than this, you’re into belt mounted systems at three times the cost.Long story short, it worked. I take extra precautions by wearing gloves, lab coat and a cloth painters head covering. When combined with this unit I don’t exhibit any symptoms at all. These measures may sound extreme, but when you consider that all of the skin peeled off of my face when this started, wearing the extra gear is a minor inconvenience.As others have noted, there is extra weight on your neck from the blower. You also need to re-learn your “clearances”… I banged into a number of cabinet doors, etc., when I first started using it.It works well with glasses and because it is positive pressure, it keeps foreign particles from entering at any gaps. Would I trust this theory when around airborne diseases?? Of course not, I only need to keep fine sawdust from getting on my face and into my lungs.As for the poor reviews about the unit not shipping with a battery charger… this kit INCLUDES the battery charger. If you don’t receive a charger, return it, don’t leave a bad review!

Great value, suboptimal UX
This is probably the cheapest reliable PAPR one can obtain, especially when it goes on discount, outside of scoring an especially lucky deal on some military surplus; I seriously do not trust the random unbranded blower motors elsewhere on Amazon that’re allegedly a fraction of this price. Anyhow, the fit and seal on the mask are excellent, the airflow is very sufficient, and the filtering performance is as effective as you’d want if you’re looking into buying something like this.This PAPR comes with a particulates-only filter out of the box, and you’re theoretically not supposed to use non-3M-Versaflo filters with it; it does, however, take a standard 40mm NATO threaded filter, as opposed to 3M’s other PAPR systems which take incredibly-proprietary cartridges.The single sacrifice one is making for all this value is, unfortunately, comfort. 3M’s own filter is, as pictured, incredibly thin and light. This helps a lot, given that you have it and the blower motor hanging off of your face in a cantilevered manner. Unfortunately, if you ever pick up a heavier filter, especially one with broader capabilities than what 3M officially supplies, you now have to carry that weight, directly on your face. The four-point harness does its best to help with this, but fundamentally there’s only so much it *can* do.Ultimately, though, I don’t think that’s a criticism worth knocking off a star for. For my particular use case, this is the best option that this amount of money can buy.

Expensive, but if you need it, absolutely worth it. Forced air keep your face cool, so it’s the opposite of wearing any breathing protection that doesn’t have forced air and makes you sweat.I wore this over a substantial beard (just trying it out working with insulation, nothing too toxic), and the air I was breathing felt/tasted fresh and cool, while I could feel the air being forced out of the seal through my beard.It fits well, the straps provide alot of adjustability, it’s a high quality build, and if you need this level of protection then this is a great option… It’s expensive but if you look at any other forced air breathing protection system, you’ll realize this is the highest end consumer product, and if you go any ‘better’ you’ll be spending 10x as much.The major downside is that while it fits well and is comfortable, it doesn’t take too long to notice the weight. The fan is mounted to the front of the unit and it starts to pull your chin into your chest. I think it could be possible to mount the fan on your belt and have an air hose go up to the mask, but obviously any DIY jury rigs are going to introduce safety issues.The battery is also heavy, but it clips (very positively) to your belt. I usually run the wire down my chest under my shirt then up and out my pants to my belt so it can’t snag on anything.Filters are also pricey but again, you get what you pay for. I went with a case because I couldn’t stand to pay the unit price on one or two, and now I have filters for life, I guess…

Mask outfit came complete and in good condition. This mask might be extra small for men, but was a perfect fit for me bc I’m a petite woman.Package was exactly as described, in excellent condition with full instructions, amd arrived in reasonable time as expected.
