  1. The Straight Scoop!

Accurate and consistent readings across base and all sensors.
Bought this set, (base with 3 sensors) a few months ago. Setup and pairing was a no-brainer. Once completed, I initially placed the base and sensors together right next to my home thermostat for the first day to check performance. I was really impressed, surprised even, by how accurate and consistent the readings were across all devices. Humidity readings were within 2% of each other, and temp readings within 0.4 degrees. I use the included USB cable for the base’s power, and batteries just for the remote sensors. If I think of it, I may pop in later to report how long the batteries last, but for now it’s at least +3 months with Duracells. As of Dec. ‘24, price/performance/function is excellent. The only “con” I’ve observed is the base’s display backlighting. It has hi/low/off settings, but the display is too dark, virtually unreadable in the off position, even in daytime, but the low setting is sufficient for both day/night visibility. Not an issue if running on USB power, but may be a draining issue for those using batteries to power their base unit.I was impressed enough that I just ordered another identical set to monitor my garage, attics and crawl space too, and thought I’d drop a quick review in the process.

    Works well, and rtl_433 compatible.
This is an inexpensive weather station, so I set my expectations accordingly, but after having a chance to use it, it’s a pretty decent value for the price. Everything seems well built and feels solid. The display is clear, intuitive, and it’s easy to read all four temperatures from a distance. It also has some nice features, like the ability to set alarms based on temperature or humidity. It can be powered by three AAA batteries, or by an included USB cable. One small issue here: there’s no USB power supply included. Not a big deal if you’re like me and have a collected a bunch from the days when every new phone came with one, but worth considering if you’re planning on powering it that way.Somewhat more annoying is the screen space taken up by the “comfort indicator.” Each of the four temperatures on the display has a small icon that shows a neutral face if humidity is below 40%, a happy face from 40-70%, and a sad face above 70%. I live in a dry area, and I generally prefer low humidity, so I’ll probably be seeing a lot of that neutral face, even on pleasant days. Being able to customize the 40% and 70% cutoffs would have made this feature more helpful. The sensors take two AA batteries each, and are designed so they can be hung from a string, a hook, a nail, or adhesive strips. They’re labeled with a default channel, but a three-position switch in the battery compartment allows changing the channel they transmit on, if desired. There’s also a button there that allows you to transmit data instantly, rather than waiting up to 33 seconds for a scheduled update. I imagine this would be helpful in trying to position sensors or verify if batteries are good. The range seems decent; all three sensors communicate with the display no matter where they are in my home, even with several walls in between, always showing full bars on the display. The reported temperature and humidity values seem reasonably accurate, and agree well with each other, as well as with other humidity/temperature sensors I have. The sensors update at a pretty decent clip: they transmit every 31 seconds on channel 1, every 32 seconds on channel 2, and every 33 seconds on channel 3.I was also pleased to learn that the sensors are readily decoded by rtl_433. They transmit around 434 MHz, and are decoded as Oregon-THGR810 sensors. This makes it possible to log the sensor data, create a second display unit, monitor temperature remotely, or even tie things in with home automation. Interestingly, while the sensors will happily report a humidity level below 20%, the display won’t: it is currently displaying 20% for all three of my sensors, which are reporting 12%, 18%, and 18% in rtl_433. These sensors are likely not accurate below 20%, hence the limit, but it’s nice to be able to look at the raw data. I plan to use one to monitor a dry box for 3D printing filament, so it’s handy to be able to at least see humidity trends, even if the number itself may not be on the nose.

    Seems accurate
It has been a couple years, and still going strong on the first batteries. I have the base in the upstairs bedroom, one monitor in the attic, one in the basement and one outdoors. All are still working fine, and it is helping me monitor the fans in the attic.Good value, easy to set up. No negatives. More settings than I need.

    Almost Perfect
This is a small display, so not easily readable from a distance. But its small form factor is nice for a countertop it can be tucked away. I am using mine to monitor a garage-located, top freezer refrigerator. Channel 1 for the ambient garage temperature, Channel 2 with lithium batteries for the freezer compartment, and Channel 3 for the bottom, main refrigerator compartment. All 3 sensors readily connect to the base unit and can be viewed simultaneously. There are frequent temperature fluctuations — likely in the refrigerator and not due to the thermometer sensors. One star off for two reasons. (1) It would be great if the unit displayed max and min temperatures, so I could tell if my stored food was exposed to unsafe temperatures. You can set an alarm, but not sure if I will hear it. (2) My other criticism is that while a USB power cable is provided for a handy household outlet plug-in, despite the photos showing a small, 5 volt 1 amp wall charger, this unit does not come with one. Plenty of cheap options on Amazon, so why not just include one OR clearly state it is not included? But this unit is very reasonably priced, especially with a 15% promotional discount, which I applied to buying the wall charger shown in my photo.

    So much information
I got this set up two days ago, and now I know the current, min, and max temp in my greenhouse, and in a bush near my greenhouse where I hung one of the sensors, and in my bedroom, and in the guest room that seems to be a bit chilly. Also that the humidity in my greenhouse seems to stay about 15% higher than it is outside, except when it rains. So in summary this device lets me check on lots of info from one convenient location. I haven’t really tested it’s max range, but the greenhouse is about 120 feet away and has a few bushes in the way, and that seems to work fine. It is easy to use and seems competently designed. There is one fairly minor negative, the min and max temps are not for the last 24 hours, they are for a period of up to 24 hours that starts when the batteries are put in and resets every 24 hours, so it can be as little as the last few minutes history if you check right after the reset time. I recommend taking the batteries out for a minute to reset it right before you go to bed so that it won’t reset in the middle of the day in the future.

replacement of old. the 3 different temps are what I was looking for. 1 outside, 1 in garage and the inside temp. works great. easy to see. accuracy is great and ease to use.

We purchased this weather station to assist in keeping track of temperatures for various areas in and around our property. We like that we can see at a glance what the temperature is in our coldroom, basement and outside without having to go to those areas to check. The outside monitor we made sure was protected from the elements. It has worked well with lithium batteries even during our coldest temperatures.Quality is excellent.Would highly recommend.
