    Wonderful!
Thank goodness for Peg, as I now lovingly refer to my iWalk! Trimalleolar fracture of my ankle that required surgery about a week and a half after the initial break. I’m about half way through the expected eight weeks total that I’m non-weight bearing on that ankle, and I can’t imagine getting through it without Peg! Stairs on crutches are terrifying, but with Peg, I can hold the rail with one hand, carry something in my other hand, and make it up and down with ease. Don’t get me wrong, there is a bit of a learning curve, but a hands free crutch is the way to go if you want to be able to live life like relatively normal. When your Peg arrives, block out some time. She comes unassembled and without written directions. You have to watch videos online to set her up, and they don’t exactly pause to give you time to assemble. I’d have to watch, rewind, watch, pause, assemble, repeat, etc. Additionally, you need to spend time fitting the device correctly to you so there is some trial and error as you make adjustments. All in all, it took me about two hours from opening the box to taking steady steps.Peg is fantastic for getting around the house, back and forth to the car in the driveway, etc. Personally, I do not find her great for longer distances because using the knee scooter is much faster and easier. I can get around in Peg great, but I’m not winning any races.I started out in a 3 sided cast and have now been in a boot for a week. It wasn’t an issue with the cast, but I do need some extra padding under my knee with the boot because of the height difference between my leg and my leg with boot. Also, the only boot my doctor’s office dispenses has a front air pump. The videos say to get a boot with a side pump, but since that wasn’t an option, I’ve made due with extra padding under the strap below the pump as well as the extra padding under my knee. I had bought a cast toe cover sock thing that has now doubled nicely as a holder for the extra knee padding because I was able to strap it directly to the front frame. This keeps the padding in place when I remove Peg. The double padding to even out the height difference because of the pump makes it comfortable to wear; without it, the pump was pressing very hard into my shin.I’m in and out of Peg all day without issue. Yes, you do need to remove to go to the bathroom and to sit comfortably. I have rarely had to make adjustments to the fit straps, but they have slid around once or twice which you’ll realize when you tighten the blue straps and the strap itself is still loose. This device is still new enough that nurses in my doctors office had never seen one before. Prior to the ankle injury, I was not sedentary, but I don’t work out, just normal day to day moving with a fair amount of walking and climbing stairs and no balance issues. So you don’t need to be an athlete to get the hang of this! Highly recommend!

It’s not a “Set it and forget it” type of device.
I can’t say enough good things about this product. Having spent 5 months on crutches at 30,I knew I needed an alternative when I broke my ankle at 41. I was browsing Amazon for a knee scooter when I came across the iWalk 2.0,and knew I had to have it. I broke my ankle two days before I was scheduled to be off work for a week to care for our 23 month old son because our sitter was going on vacation. It’s hard enough to take care of yourself on crutches, and dealing with a ball of fire toddler was going to be nearly impossible. Enter the iWalk2.0. It arrived Monday afternoon and was an immediate came changer. Preparing meals, picking him up,and picking up after him were no big deal. Just being able to carry things around the house makes it worth the $150 price tag. The only advantages that crutches hold over this is the amount of time needed to deploy them. After a few days you can get this thing on and off pretty quick, but it’s best to keep a pair of crutches next to the bed for the first week or so. They are much faster and safer to use for those groggy, middle of the night trips to the bathroom. Now I’m comfortable enough with the iWalk to use it without strapping it on by simply holding it onto my knee with the front handle. This can still be sketchy when you’re groggy,so I don’t recommend it if your balance isn’t good enough to remain upright should you catch the “toe” of this thing on the ground mid step. I feel like anyone who didn’t like this product probably didn’t have it set up correctly. Between the included instructions, and the YouTube videos,I found assembly and initial set up to be fairly simple. Be aware that the first setting you come up with likely won’t be the one that works best for you,and you’ll spend a day or two making tweaks to the “leg” length and the straps. Proper “leg” length is the key to enjoyment and safety with this thing. Even 1/2” can be the difference between falling on your face or being almost able to run while wearing it. If you’re unsure of proper length during initial set up,go with too short as apposed to too long. Too long leads to catching the iWalk on the ground as you try to take a step, and I’m sure is what leads to 99% of falls taken while using it. It matters enough that I recommend setting it up with no shoe on your good leg and going from there. Just that slight amount of height difference can be enough to cause problems if you were to set it up while wearing a shoe, and then tried to walk in it without wearing one. Remember TOO SHORT IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN TOO LONG. This can’t be stressed enough in my opinion. There were only three slight negatives with the iWalk2.0 for this reviewer, and two of them are easily fixed. Number one is the padding on the platform. It’s not enough. Do yourself a favor and order the extra pad at the time of purchase. Number two is that it’s nearly impossible to sit while wearing this thing. The solution is to take it off before sitting. It’s called the iWalk2.0,not the iSit2.0 for a reason. You don’t expect your car to fly. Don’t expect this to do something other than what it was designed to do either. Number three in the negative column is the constant pirate jokes from friends, family, and coworkers. There is no fix for this,so I recommend buying an eyepatch and perhaps a parrot, and just going with it. In closing,I can’t say enough good things about this product. So far it’s been durable, comfortable, and helpful. Every day or two I give all the fastener a quick once over to ensure that they are snug, but I do that with my crutches too. It’s called responsible ownership people. Buy it,enjoy it,but don’t ignore adjustments. If you’re going to be out and about or wearing a shoe all day, adjust it for that. If you’re going to be on your feet after you get home and kick off your shoe, take a minute to shorten up the leg a click or two before you do. It’s simple to do,and ups safety and comfort considerably. This isn’t a set it and forget it type device if you want to get the most enjoyment out of it.

First, the downsides. It’s relatively expensive, noticeably heavy, does not come with an assembly manual (you have to look up a video), and there are some parts that are very tight and difficult to put together.Past all of that, the quality of life improvements are massive. Being able to move about while having the use of both hands and without having to balance on one leg is a huge game-changer. Much more comfortable than crutches. That said, here are some tips for use.1. Lift, move, plant, load. Be very deliberate about moving with this crutch. It isn’t a substitute for a working leg. In particular, consciously lift the crutch off the ground before moving it. If not, the foot may catch on something and make you stumble. Always shift your weight onto it slowly. It’s very stable and the foot has pretty good grip, but you don’t get the same feedback as with two feet.2. Take it off before sitting down, put it on after standing up. The crutch is quite heavy and extremely clunky while seated. If you’re putting on shoes for example, do that before you put on the crutch.3. Engage your core, glutes, and quadriceps while using the crutch. It’s tempting to let those muscles relax and just flop onto the crutch, but that puts a lot of strain on the joints. Keeping the muscles engaged like you’re walking normally helps a lot with comfort.4. You might want to consider readjusting the crutch height when you put on shoes. The height of a sole makes a lot of difference.5. If you have a hand free, keep it on the plastic protrusion on the top of the crutch. Doing that really helps with stability and keeping track of where your leg is moving. The main two features I’d like to see in a future version are a) lighter construction, perhaps with aluminium or carbon fiber instead of steel, and b) quick-change feet, so I can have one for outdoors and another for indoors, and also replace them as they wear.
