I received the Level Life Glucose Gel – 8 Pack. The package included the strawberry lemonade lift and orange vanilla dream flavors. The individual 1.1oz packs are very easy to open and convenient for travel. They remind me of the sports energy packs used for long distance running. Unlike the sports packs, the ingredients are very simple.These are very nice for a people who have blood sugar level issues. You can’t always fine a vending machine or store at the exact moment you need one. I’ve known people who try to carry candy bars, drinks, other foods, or try to rely on the ability to purchase something for emergency situations. Keeping candy bars, trail bars or other foods, in a purse or backpack, can be messy. They melt or get smashed. They also do not usually contain simple sugars that are not as readily available for your body. These are just glucose and much more efficient. The pouches are so much more convenient and ready to go. This is why this is a very common quick energy system for endurance athletes.These aren’t meant to be a daily snack or food source, so the flavor is okay for the intended purpose. Good boost with nearly no downsides.
I took this at the base of a large Hill right before the end of the trail. It tasted like the homemade brand of strawberry lemonade from Walmart but super condensed and much too sweet. Luckily for me, I have my trusty hydration pack on my back. I recommend squeezing some gel into your mouth then taking a swig and gulping it down. Just pretend it’s lemonade.A couple minutes later as I’m dictating this, I don’t feel really tired which is cool. It’s basically a shot of sugar. I’m still sore but I’m not very tired. Pretty sure it means the product is working. Yay!The packaging packs up neatly into my pocket which is great for lightness. Not too much extra weight to lug around.Whenever there’s a sugar rush, there’s also usually a sugar crash where you feel sluggish and heavy. No crash to report. I felt fine afterwards.Personally, I prefer long-term energy like beef, jerky or the typical trail mix, but when you need the extra oomph at the ends of your journey or you’re feeling tuckered out, this is a good option. And tasty too.

I tried these as the ones I had been using were getting too sweet and irritated my stomach. The taste of these is generally better.However, they are almost impossible to open. If you’re in a blood sugar low, you need to be able to open them quickly and easily. As I have issues with my hands, it can be difficult to grip things to open them.I’ve yet to be able to open them with my hands. I also use my teeth when needed. Haven’t been able to rip these open far enough to easily ingest the gel.Even scissors haven’t always opened it enough and who always has scissors next to them or are able to think clearly enough when having low blood sugar?I’ve squeezed and rolled the package from the bottom and the opening still isn’t wide enough. Most of the gel just stays in the package and/or dribbles out on my fingers.Many of the lows come during the night. Quick opening is expected and not there.I’ve yet to open one successfully on the first try. I’ve also not been able to fully empty even one packet. At the price for something very necessary for an insulin dependent diabetic, the waste is disappointing.I really want to like these better. They just aren’t convenient.
