I own a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with factory radio, which has UConnect but no CarPlay or Android Auto. I’ve replaced radio head units on my other vehicles so I’m not afraid to do it but I wanted a cheaper option for getting CarPlay in the van. A quick search on the topic led to these type of devices and the LAMTTO product stood out as a great option, good screen size, good reviews, and low price point. Sol gave it a shot.PROS: It is very easy to unpack and setup. Both of the provided mounting options – suction cup and surface mount – are great. I really like that the little bracket that attaches to the screen uses a standard 7mm ball, so really any mount that takes a 7mm ball will work for you. Connecting CarPlay, AirPlay, and both the Android options worked well. You should read the short user’s guide that comes with the device but the on-screen directions on how to connect your phone/device for CarPlay, etc. are easy to follow and worked every time right away. The device starts up quickly, though you do need to give it 10-20 seconds for it to initialize Bluetooth before you connect your phone/device to it. You can get output from the device from its internal speaker (acceptable quality), Bluetooth to your car’s radio (if it has Bluetooth) or a Bluetooth speaker, on an FM channel, or through an aux cable (that’s included). Everything they describe about this product works very well. The dashcam footage looks great and is high quality. (I didn’t hook up the backup camera so I can’t speak to that aspect.)Cons: With the default firmware load that came with mine, when you unpower the device it loses/”forgets” the time you’ve set so it resets every time you turn the device off. Not a big deal from the CarPlay perspective but it affects the filenames of your dashcam recordings or photos. You can resolve this, though, by doing a firmware upgrade. It’s mentioned in the users guide but to say it here too, you just need to email their support email address and ask if there’s a firmware update for your device. Their support team is very responsive and provide great directions on how to do it. It was very easy and worked perfectly (and the issue is indeed fixed). The only other con I can come up with, and it might be true for all devices like this, is that you can’t “pinch” zoom on the screen. You can drag things around on the screen no problem, but pinching motions aren’t recognized so you need to find and use the + or – magnifying glass in some apps in order to zoom in/out.The pros far outweigh the cons, especially at the price point it’s being sold at. If you want CarPlay or Android Auto without replacing your car radio, this is a great option for you.

Good display and good customer service
This is a surprisingly high quality setup for a very reasonable price. The display feels solid, is snappy and responsive and has all the trappings of a typical CarPlay interface. Installation out of the box is dead simple if you’re content with plugging into the 12V lighter port, and using the included suction mount. It’s only slightly more complicated if you get a wiring kit. In my case, as it happens, I received a box that had no backup camera included. I emailed the customer service noted on the box and received a response within a day that they would ship out a replacement camera ASAP, at no charge and no questions asked. Would buy from this seller again.

I got pulled away and now it’s after 30 days. Purchased May 2024.Pros:1. Larger screen is better than your phone.2. Heads up display on dash with pretty decent dash mount. I used the flexible stick on.3. Built-in speaker, but wish it was louder and clearer. I have volume maxed out.4. I haven’t, but could actually use the other Mount included and be able to swap between two vehicles.Without backup camera of course.Cons:1. The screen has terrible glare.2. Built-in speaker is weak.3. There’s more lag time when using Google maps through this device.4. Android audio is terrible. Much static noise. Just buy the onn for $10 at Walmartz, it’s fantastic.5. When using Google maps (via Bluetooth) it takes over my phone and does not want to disconnect when done with my three stops. I actually unplug to kill it, which is a pain in the ars and I’m believing it will wear out my plug.6. Very difficult to enter addresses through this device. I have to leave it unplugged until I enter them into my phone first and then plug in device when started with my route. It takes about 1 minute to boot up and connect to phone for route.7. One of the most irritating parts is when you’re actually in route and made a stop and would like to preview the route, but try to zoom out and it’s just painful. I actually would recommend saving your money and buying a bigger better smart-phone and mount. As I said earlier I would have returned and applied the $150 to a newer better phone.8. I also bought this for the rear camera. I am disappointed on how that turned out and actually hooked it into the rear backup lights so it will operate automatically. It is irritating every time I go from Park to Drive, it flashes through the rear camera for a couple of seconds away from g-map. Rear camera operation is also disappointing and I really don’t use it like I thought I would. Also attaching power wire for the camera is not for some rookie that hasn’t done wiring.HINT: find backup bulb and Trace wires for splicing. Keep in mind to wrap well with electrical tape to prevent electrical shorts.9. I wanted to load YouTube into the device, but it will not allow it because it doesn’t want you to be distracted while driving. I really wanted it when I’m sitting and at lunch or whenever I’m just sitting in my car. I wanted to watch YouTube on the bigger screen and play the audio through my car speakers. These devices will not allow.Apply your money and buy a bigger better phone. Which will allow you to do anything you want.Note: This device is not a standalone and must use a smart device to drive it.Summation: My actual feeling about these devices, they’re worth about 50 or $60 because, the value I get out of it is because I only use it for Google maps. I don’t think you can actually upgrade any of the apps inside the device. Also don’t know any of the device app versions, which I tried to find out pre-purchase. Lamtto device may become useless at some point when my future Google apps updates/ versions/ Bluetooth version /connectivity, will not communicate.I’m Hopefull Lamtto will prevent me from having an accident and maybe the forward camera will capture something at some point and pay off.Update: Dec. 4, 2024.I have unhooked the rear camera from the head unit. I just unplugged it. So now when I shift from park to drive, it doesn’t reboot the unit every time. I use the unit about 20 hours a week. It’s still operating pretty much like new. Sometimes I have to reboot the unit. Maybe i’m just a little impatient about the slow boot up. It is helpful, there are 3 choices, 4, the display route, i wish it was easier to zoom out to get the full route without auto adjusting direction continuously. It does save on your phone’s battery, because you’re not having to run the screen on your phone.Another con is at night. It will not go to black background, Like your phone will. It’s somewhat irritating because it’s like having a flashlight in your face. The auto dim does not quite go Dim enough. I’ll have to manually dim it a little bit more, And then the next day, you’ll have to go in and reset it.
