New materials. Awesome product now!!!
This is a replacement to my original review. This is the short version. I was originally not happy with the product but am now completely satisfied, can wholeheartedly recommend them, and would not hesitate to order from them again. Here is the full review. I had originally rated the bag with 2 stars because I had a problem when I first received the bag. The first design of this bag utilized an inferior product for the liner and for the waterproof closure on the main compartment. I had problems with it and I have seen several other reviewers here that have apparently had the same problem that I did. I also had problems reaching the Shangri-La Customer Service department. I returned the first bag that I purchased and replaced it with a Maxpedition Jumbo that was much more expensive. Since then, everything has changed. I received an email from Leon, the Shangri-La Customer Service Manager, who was very concerned about my problems. He asked what kind of problems I had experienced and if there was anything they could do to help me be more satisfied with their product. I explained what had happened and he let me know that they had realized quickly that there was a problem with the material that was being used and had replaced it with a much better quality material. Leon shipped me a new bag to evaluate and when I received a new one with the new liner in it…wow! It was a vastly superior material and the problem had been eliminated. In order to be willing to “re-review” the bag, I wanted to be sure that the problem would not be repeated with the new material and I tried to pull it apart, with far more force than actually using the bag would ever apply, and make the liner separate from the bag and was not able to do so. I can now wholeheartedly recommend this product and this company. The bag design is great! It is very close in design to the Maxpedition Jumbo but it is better. I now have both bags and have been able to closely compare them. The overall appearance of the bag is very similar to the Maxpedition but the Shangri-La bag has much more room in it. I tried to pack the Maxpedition for an overnight hiking trip and after putting in a first aid kit, rain jacket, Hydro Flask water bottle (I very much recommend this water bottle) and a few other items, it was full. I have placed the same items in the Shangri-La bag and there is still a lot of room left. There are many features to the Shangri-La that I like a lot better than the Maxpedition as well. The interior details of the pockets on the Shangri-La are far superior and much more functional than the Maxpedition. The outside has several adjustable bungee cords on it that can be used to secure items and has molle attachment points in more locations than the Maxpedition. I really love this bag and look forward to many years of use. I now would not hesitate to purchase anything from this company because I believe that their customer service department is dedicated to ensuring that their customers are completely satisfied and will work with the customer and do whatever it takes to ensure their complete and total satisfaction.

A great alternative to the Maxpedition Mongo
I previously owned a Maxpedition Mongo, and I loved it. I ended up selling the Mongo to try out a different bag, which I liked, but I found myself missing the storage and versatility of the Mongo. However, I couldn’t afford to replace it. This bag came to my attention via a YouTube review and I decided to give it a chance since it appeared to have the same great construction quality and materials as the Maxpedition Mongo, and it is very obvious that this drew heavily from the Mongo design. The only real differences I can find between the two are that there is no cell phone pouch on the shoulder strap, the waist strap does not have a dedicated storage pocket like the Mongo, there isn’t Velcro patches inside the pockets like the Mongo has, and the front flap is not as wide as on the Mongo ( it actually looks more like the flap from a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack ), nor does the front flap pocket go from the top of the flap to the bottom, but instead is just the bottom half of the flap. Honestly I prefer this flap being less wide, as that was one thing about the Mongo I didn’t care for since it made the bag feel bulkier somehow. I will say that with the narrower flap on this bag that if you don’t have the main pocket full it can leave a gap going into the main pocket on either side of the flap, but the main pocket does have the same drawstring protective shroud for the main pocket like the Mongo. All in all you are getting a fantastic bag with excellent construction and 1000D nylon material with proper double stitching, quality zippers, and plenty of molle and Velcro on the outside for additional gear attachment. Definitely worth the $50 I paid. If you want a more exact copy of a Mongo for about $15 more check out the Rapdom t311 Tactical Messenger Bag here on Amazon. Rapdom Tactical Messenger Bag, Coyote

Great value.
This bag mimics the maxpedition mongo bag. For less than half the price. It’s a rugged bag and I use it for EDC. The zippers are good and I have not had any issues so far. It’s a good size for EDC and fits and organizes a lot of gear. This fits in a casual office setting or in the wilds as a modern haversack. I did notice loose threads in some spots but it was not unraveling. It was just not cut tight to the material. I used a lighter to clean those up. All in all I would recommend this bag especially at the price.

Decent bag, 4/5 stars
Okay, so overall this is a decent bag, easily four out of five stars, and with a few minor improvements it could be a five-star fantastic bag.Pros: – Seems well-made; a few stray threads here and there, but nothing major – TONS of pockets, lots of opportunity for organizationCons: – The shoulder pad is stiff and uncomfortable. I ended up cutting mine off and replacing it with the shoulder pad from by old Condor bag. No biggie. – The zipper pulls are not very secure and seem like they will unravel at a moments’ notice. Easily replaceable with something better. – The carabiner-type clip on the strap is completely useless where it’s positioned, even when you rotate the bag to your front. Used bolt cutters to cut mine off. That’s disappointing. – The water bottle pouch is too short for a 32oz bottle as they claim. For reference, I use a 32oz Iron Flask, and it barely comes 2/3rds up the bottle. I’m not thrilled about that.If these few things were fixed, they’d have a bag on par with Maxpedition.
A honest review from someone who actually bought one –
Its not water proof but its comfy and hold alot and has some decent pockets. The zips have not failed and it hasnt come apart at the seams. I just wish it was waterproof for more adventuring.

Not being able to find a suitable sling-bag (backpack with one strap) put me in a weird position. I absolutely love this bag. Well constructed, well built. It carries my Windows Pro 4 w/ charge cables, ipad air with aplomb. All the cables that require various diverse i/o. Laser measure for temp/distances. Dive knife, ASP baton for assholes. The Tactical Molle system cannot be underrated. This is good messenger bag even if you aren’t just a messenger.

i’m using it for a camera bag. holds my cleaning stuff, extra batteries, SSDs, three pancake lenses, 20-200mm lens, 18-35mm lens, my 80D, bag of filters, shutter release and my lens hoods. small tripod easily mounts on the bottom. i still have quite a bit of small compartments left.i don’t go trudging through jungles so this works just fine for me. the strap i find comfortable and the bag easily sits just off to the side, out of the way but easily accessible to change lenses or what not.
