Banana tastes real
One of the best tasting shakes I’ve had. I love the banana a lot, it tastes like a real blended banana. I had the chocolate in this brand and I didn’t love it. I should try more flavors.

Still tasty three years on.
Its been a year now of my having this stuff for breakfast most mornings. I thought I would have grown sick of it long ago but to my surprise, its still good. This may actually be my usual breakfast for the rest of my life. Except when I eat bacon and eggs. its hard to compete with bacon and eggs. I even ventured to try some of their other flavors but not so much did I like them. This one seems to hit the Goldilox of flavors for me. Not too strong, not too bland. I recommend mixing it with oat milk.Update. Year two. Still drink it most mornings mixed with oat mild. Does not get old to my, still, surprise. These days I also add a scoop of some antioxidant powder I get from Costco, called Juce, and a scoop of L-Glutamine powder which seems to really tame my Colitis.Update. Year three. I have this every morning and I still love it.

This is one of the best plant based protein drinks that I have tried. I liked the strawberry and decided to try the banana. I typically make my smoothies as follows:2 handfuls of spinach or kale1 scoop banana spirutein1 scoop vanilla Phood (by plant fusion)1/2 banana1 cup frozen mango1/2 cup frozen strawberries1 cup coconut milk (or soy/almond)I mix this all up in my nutribullet and it tastes amazing. It looks green but the sweetness from the powders and fruit cover the taste of the spinach and kale. This is my favorite smoothie. You can sub out the banana/mango/strawberry for other fruits as well. I have not had a bad combination.If you like oats in your smoothie you can do the following:1 frozen banana1-2 TBSP of Peanut Butter (or PB2 Powder)2 scoops banana spirutein1/4 cup quick oats1 cup coconut milk (or soy/almond)This combination is amazing as well. I like to throw in some strawberries and get a PB & J feel. I love this powder and will keep it in my rotation. I have tried many many plant based proteins and the best ones are 1. Spriutein, 2. Amazing Grass Pomegranate Mango, 3. Phood by plant fusion, 4. Plant Fusion Vanilla. If you try any of these in a smoothie you will not be disappointed.I have never used any of these powders in just plain milk or water, only in smoothies. I feel like I get better nutrition blending these with fruit and greens.

Works good for me
I’ve been using this product for decades. I like Spiru-Tein above the whey powder based products for reasons of sensitivity. Years ago, the Spirutein formula was vastly different than what it is today. There was more spirulina in it back then. Too bad what they’ve done to it now so I’m giving 4 stars for that reason. The banana flavor is good – a lot better than their fake strawberry flavored product.

Officially not the same product, flavor, or formula
I left a similar review on the vanilla product. I’ve been buying Spirutein for YEARS and have converted MANY friends to this product line. I recently made it through my old supply of Spirutein and was dismayed to find out that the formula has changed. The new flavor has an artificial sweetness to it that my taste buds don’t like. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m actually a person that likes artificial sweeteners whether it be stevia, splenda, etc. But this flavor is SO SWEET. I emailed customer support asking about it and this was their literal response:”The Spiru-tein did have a formula change a little while ago, which made the product sweeter.”So it has officially been confirmed by Nature’s Plus. They changed the formula despite not changing the packaging or letting customers know that the formula had changed. So although the packaging is the same, this is NOT the same product we have been buying for years.I’ve attached a screenshot showing the old (left) and new (right) formulas side by side for both vanilla and banana. I’ve combed through both ingredient lists and aside from some small nuances, the biggest difference for vanilla is that the new formula has “organic monk fruit extract (Sia grosvenori)” added to it and “oligofructose” is moved much higher in the ingredient list.While the vanilla is bearable, the banana tastes so sweet it is almost sickening. Comparing the old and new formulas for the banana reveals nearly identical formulas aside from the new one adding “oligofructose” and “non-GMO xanthan gum.” The old formula had both “oat bran” and “bee pollen” which the new one doesn’t have. Additionally in the case of banana, it even has 20 more calories per serving than the old formula had.Overall I’ve loved sprutein over the years, but I can no longer recommend it to anyone considering the overly sweet flavor of the new formula.
